Sky Blue (song)
"Sky Blue" is a song written and recorded by English musician Peter Gabriel. In September 2002, it appeared on Gabriel's seventh studio album, '' Up''. Fragments of the song were also used on Gabriel's soundtrack album '' Long Walk Home: Music from the Rabbit-Proof Fence'', which preceded the release of ''Up'' by a few months. Background The origins of "Sky Blue" date back to the 1980s around 15 years before the song's eventual release on ''Up'' in 2002. Gabriel first developed the main riff, which he earmarked for future use. He recorded a version of the song for the '' Us'' album in 1992, but it went unused. Gabriel returned to the song for ''Up'', making it the oldest song on the album. In comparison to the demo recorded for ''Us'', which Gabriel described as having a band oriented arrangement, the version found on ''Up'' features sparser instrumentation. Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, and human rights activist. He came to prominence as the original frontman of the rock band Genesis. He left the band in 1975 and launched a solo career with " Solsbury Hill" as his first single. Anthony Frederick Levin (born June 6, 1946) is an American musician and composer specializing in electric bass guitars, Chapman Stick and upright bass. He also sings and plays synthesizer. Levin is best known for his work with King Crimson (1981–2021) and Peter Gabriel (since 1977). David Rhodes (guitarist)
David John Sydney Rhodes (born 2 May 1956) is an English guitarist, singer, songwriter and long-time collaborator of Peter Gabriel. He was the guitarist and vocalist for the British rock band Random Hold from 1976 to 1980, and has been the principal studio and touring guitarist for Gabriel since 1980. The Akai MPC (originally MIDI Production Center, now Music Production Center) is a series of Music workstation#Third generation music workstations, music workstations produced by Akai from 1988 onwards. MPCs combine Sampler (musical instrument), sampling and Music sequencer, sequencing functions, allowing users to record portions of sound, modify them and play them back as sequences. The first MPCs were designed by the American engineer Roger Linn, who had designed the successful Linn LM-1, LM-1 and LinnDrum drum machines in the 1980s.
