Skip E. Lowe
Sammy Labella (June 6, 1929 – September 22, 2014), better known by his stage name Skip E. Lowe, was an American stand-up comedian, talk show host and actor. Career Before adopting his now familiar stage name, LaBella worked as a stand-up comic, impressionist and master of ceremonies. In 1958, he performed in a number of Pittsburgh venues, most notably Lenny Litman's Copa, where he opened for Lambert, Hendricks and Ross and Dakota Staton. The following summer saw a number of engagements in New York State, and it was in July 1959 that LaBella made his first appearance as Skip E. Lowe at Glen Casino in Williamsville, New York. Beginning in 1978, he hosted ''Skip E. Lowe Looks at Hollywood'', a weekly talk show for public-access cable television that aired in Los Angeles and New York City. ''Best Foot Forward'' is a 1943 American musical film adapted from the 1941 Broadway musical comedy of the same title. The film was released by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, directed by Edward Buzzell, and starred Lucille Ball, William Gaxton, Virginia Weidler, Tommy Dix, Chill Wills, June Allyson, Gloria DeHaven, and Nancy Walker. ''Prime Suspect'' is a 1989 American thriller directed by Bruce Kimmel (using the pseudonym Mark Rutland, as he was brought in after the original director (Thomas Constantinides) proved unequal to the task) and produced by Alain Silver and Patrick Regan. Bruce Kimmel also composed the underscore. The film stars Don Blakely, Tom Bresnahan and Ann Dane. Only 15 to 20 minutes of this 90 minute film remain of Constantinides' work. Kimmel was brought in on one day's notice and finished the film as a favor to his friends Alain Silver and Patrick Regan, with whom he had worked many times. The script was by Constantinides. The resulting film wasn't exactly poorly received, as it went straight to home video and no reviews of it seem to exist. ''Bare Knuckles'' is a 1977 blaxploitation film, starring Robert Viharo, Sherry Jackson and Gloria Hendry. The film was written and directed by Don Edmonds. Plot L.A. bounty hunter, Zachary Kane, is on the hunt for a masked serial killer on the loose. Production Director Edmonds said he didn't get any permits for the movie, it was made for $25,000 with another $25,000 spent for goods and services. Legacy It is one of the films that have inspired Quentin Tarantino, and it was selected by Tarantino himself to be shown at his Los Angeles Grindhouse Festival in 2007.
