Skills England
Skills England is an executive agency of the Department for Education formally established on 2 June 2025. The agency has assumed the functions transferred to the Secretary of State from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. The main purpose of the agency is to increase flexibility within the skills training area, to properly cater for skills shortages within regional economies. It would also use the apprenticeships levy more effectively. The stated ambitions are to build world class skills, enabling growth and opportunity, understand the nation’s skills needs and improve the skills offer, simplify access to skills to boost economic growth and to mobilise employers and other partners, co-creating solutions to meet national, regional and local skills needs. An executive agency is a part of a government department that is treated as managerially and budgetarily separate, to carry out some part of the executive functions of the United Kingdom government, Scottish Government, Welsh Government or Northern Ireland Executive. Institute For Apprenticeships And Technical Education
The Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) was an employer led organisation that helped shape technical education and apprenticeships in the United Kingdom. They did so by developing, reviewing and revising occupational standards that form the basis of apprenticeships and qualifications such as T Levels. Post 16 and Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs). It was funded by the Department for Education of the Government of the United Kingdom. In 2024, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that Skills England would take over the function of IfATE, over the course of nine months. Farnborough Airshow
The Farnborough International Airshow is a trade exhibition for the aerospace and defence industries, where civilian and military aircraft are demonstrated to potential customers and investors in Farnborough, Hampshire. Since its first show in 1948, Farnborough has seen the debut of many famous aeroplanes, including the Vickers VC10, Concorde, the Eurofighter, the Airbus A380, and the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II. At the 1958 show, Hawker Hunters of the RAF's Black Arrows executed a 22-aircraft formation loop, setting a new world record. The international trade show runs for five days.
