Skid Row Running Club
The Skid Row Running Club is a running club based in the Skid Row neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. Since its founding, the club has had more than five hundred participants. History In 2012, the Skid Row Running Club was founded by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Craig Mitchell at the Midnight Mission, as an effort to improve the livelihood of those in the Skid Row area. Mitchell was invited down to the Midnight Mission by Roderick Brown, a man Mitchell had previously sentenced to prison. After Brown was released from prison, he was paroled and began living at the Midnight Mission. Brown invited Mitchell to visit the mission because he wanted to introduce the judge to the people who were helping him get his life back together. The president of Midnight Mission asked Mitchell if he was interested in working with them to help people who are homeless to gain self-sufficiency. Running Club
A running club, also known in some parts of the United States as a running crew , is an eclectic institution specialising in running and oriented towards the sport and recreation of running or track and field. The club may train for and compete in Cross country running, cross country, road running, fell running, track and field some clubs even branch out into multi discipline sports such as triathlon. Since the early 2000s, alternative running clubs or crews have emerged and they differ from traditional running clubs as the focus is on urban running on city streets. One of the crews widely considered to be the first is the Bridge Runners formed by Mike Saes in New York City in 2004. In 2006, Charlie Dark formed Run Dem Crew in London which has since grown to several hundred people who meet every Tuesday, and has led to Dark receiving a Points of Light award from the UK prime minister Theresa May for his dedication to establishing the alternative running community. Skid Row is a neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles. The area is officially known as Central City East. As of a 2019 count, the population of the district was 8,757.
