Holmenkollbakken
Holmenkollbakken is a large ski jumping hill located at Holmenkollen in Oslo, Norway. It has a hill size of HS134, a construction point of K-120, and a capacity for 70,000 spectators. Holmenkollen has hosted the Holmenkollen Ski Festival since 1892, which since 1980 have been part of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup and 1983 the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup. It has also hosted the 1952 Winter Olympics and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1930, 1966, 1982 and 2011. The hill has been rebuilt 19 times; important upgrades include a stone take-off in 1910, an in-run superstructure in 1914, and a new superstructure in 1928. During the Second World War, the venue was used as a military installation, but upgraded in the late 1940s. Further expansions were made ahead of the 1966 and 1982 World Championships, as well as in 1991. Between 2008 and 2010, the entire structure was demolished and rebuilt. Andreas Däscher (9 June 1927 – 4 August 2023) was a Swiss ski jumper who is best known for developing the parallel style, or Däscher technique, in the 1950s. This technique became widely used throughout ski jumping until the early 1990s. This technique was the standard technique until the V-style was developed by Jan Boklöv in 1985. The Daescher technique superseded the Kongsberger technique developed by Jacob Tullin Thams and Sigmund Ruud (both from Norway) after World War I in Kongsberg. Erich Windisch, a German Olympic ski jumper, who developed in 1949 a jumping technique in which the jumper's arms are slightly arched and pointing downward, is also credited along with Däscher of developing the revamped aerodynamic jumping style that was used in elite competition for over 30 years. Art Devlin (ski Jumper)
Arthur "Art" Donovan Devlin (September 7, 1922 – April 22, 2004) was an American ski jumper who competed during the 1950s. A native of Lake Placid, New York, he finished fifth in the individual large hill at the 1950 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships which were held in Lake Placid. Devlin also made five Olympics teams, competing in the 1952 and 1956 Winter Olympics, where he finished 15th and 21st in the individual large hills, respectively. Prior to the 1950s, Devlin also flew fifty combat missions over Europe during World War II as a B-24 pilot, earning three Purple Hearts and numerous other military honors. While in ski jumping, Devlin went into the hotel business in 1953, opening Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Inn, a hotel he would run until he retired and passed it onto his son, Art, Jr., in 1992. Walter Steinegger (5 November 1928 – 12 October 2022) was an Austrian ski jumper who competed from 1952 to 1963. He finished 14th in the individual large hill at the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo. He was born in Innsbruck. Steinegger's best career finish was third in the individual normal hill in West Germany in 1957. He also competed in the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley as well, finishing 16th in the individual large hill.
