Ski Beach, Northern Territory
The Gove Peninsula is at the northeastern corner of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia. The peninsula became strategically important during World War II when a Royal Australian Air Force base was constructed at what is now Gove Airport. The peninsula was involved in a famous court case known as the Gove land rights case, when local Yolngu people tried to claim native title over their traditional lands in 1971, after the Australian Government had granted a mineral lease to a bauxite mining company without consulting the local peoples. Today the land is owned by the Yolngu people. Location The Gove Peninsula is on the west coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria within Arnhem Land, a vast tract of Australian Aborigines, Aboriginal-owned land on the Northern Territory coastline. Electoral Division Of Mulka
Mulka is an electoral division of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in a 2019 redistribution for the 2020 Northern Territory general election, 2020 general election, replacing the electoral division of Nhulunbuy. At that election, independent Nhulunbuy incumbent Yingiya Mark Guyula won the seat in a tightly contested rematch of the 2016 Northern Territory general election, 2016 general election, with the Territory Labor Party being his only opposition. He retained his seat at the 2024 Northern Territory general election, 2024 general election with a large swing in his favour, against one opposing candidate, from the Country Liberal Party. Mulka is located in eastern Arnhem Land and is divided into two parts. The major population centre is the town of Nhulunbuy.
