Skellefteå Kraft Arena
Skellefteå Kraft Arena is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena located in Skellefteå, Sweden. The capacity of the arena is 5,801 and it was built in 1966. and inaugurated on 6 January 1967. It is the home arena of the Swedish Hockey League, SHL's Skellefteå AIK as well as Hockeyettan's SK Lejon. The arena is named after Skellefteå Kraft, a Swedish power company. Renovation Skellefteå Kraft Arena turned into a construction site in late summer 2005, since the decision had been made to renovate the arena. By the start of the 2007/2008 season the renovation was almost finished, and the seating capacity had been increased from 5,200 to 6,001. The renovation cost an estimated 140 MSEK, and transformed the arena from a typical Swedish indoor ice hockey venue to a modern ice hockey and event arena. Skellefteå (, locally ) is a Cities in Sweden, city in Västerbotten County, Sweden, with a population of 36,388. It is the seat of Skellefteå Municipality, which had 77,322 inhabitants in 2024. The city is historically industrial, with mining being a large part of that industry, especially for gold, leading to the city being nicknamed ''Guldstaden'' ("gold town"). Politically, Skellefteå is a Social Democrats (Sweden), Social Democratic stronghold. Skellefteå Kraft is a municipality-owned power company in Sweden. The company was established in 1908. It operates in Skellefteå, Lycksele, Storuman and Sundsvall in Sweden, and in Jakobstad in Finland. The company owns a number of hydroelectric power stations and also holds stakes in the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant and Alholmens Kraft Power Station. In cooperation with Fortum, the company develops the Blaiken wind farm. The company also operates several regional and local power distribution networks and owns a wood pellets production plant. Hockeyettan is the third tier of ice hockey in Sweden. As of the 2015–16 season, the league consists of 39 teams divided geographically into four groups. Hockeyettan operates a system of promotion and relegation with HockeyAllsvenskan and Division 2. From 1944 to 1975, Division I was the highest league in the Swedish ice hockey system, but with the creation of Elitserien (now the SHL) in 1975, it became the second tier. Division I was further relegated to third-tier status in 1999 as HockeyAllsvenskan was spun off into a standalone league, but was frequently written as "Division 1" on the Internet, as it was pronounced "Division One".
