Sjur Bygd
Sjur Bygd (28 April 1889 – 29 October 1985) was a Norwegian novelist, farmer and local politician. He was born in Vossestrand, a son of farmer and mayor Eirik Torsteinson Bygd and Ingebjørg Sjursdotter. He made his literary début in 1915, with the short-story collection ''Fjell-folk''. Among his early novels are ''Holmgang'' from 1917 and ''Valplassen'' from 1921. Bygd and his literary work was portrayed in the periodical ''Kirke og Kultur'' in 1928, and in ''Syn og Segn'' in 1941. Vossestrand
Vossestrand is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in the old Hordaland county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1868 until its dissolution in 1964. It was located in the northern part of the present-day municipality of Voss. The municipality was centered on the nearby villages of Vinje, Hordaland, Vinje and Oppheim, where the two churches for the municipality are located: Vinje Church (Hordaland), Vinje Church and Oppheim Church. The large lake Oppheimsvatnet sat in the central part of the municipality. The administrative centre was at Vasstrondi, on the south side of the lake Oppheimsvatnet. It was instituted in 1908 to reward meritorious achievements in the fields of art, science, business, and public service. It is divided in two classes: gold and silver. The medal in gold is rewarded for extraordinary achievements of importance to the nation and society while the medal in silver may be awarded for lesser achievements.It is suspended from a ribbon in the colours of the Royal Standard of Norway. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old. He took the examen artium in Stavanger in 1949, and a teacher's education in Kristiansand in 1952. He studied philology in Oslo and Bergen, and graduated with the cand.philol. degree in 1957.
