Sitka High School
Sitka High School (abbreviated SHS) is the principal high school for the Alaska Panhandle, Southeast Alaskan community of Sitka, Alaska, Sitka and the Sitka School District. The school's student body is primarily composed of Alaska Natives, Alaskan Natives, and Asian-Pacific American, Asian-Pacific Islanders and Caucasians. Academics Four Advanced Placement Program, Advanced Placement courses are offered: AP Statistics, AP Language and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Literature (offered biannually) and AP Human Geography. Sondra Lundvick is the current Principal (school), principal and Tyler McCarty is the current vice principal. Sitka, Alaska
Sitka (; ) is a municipal home rule, unified Consolidated city-county, city-borough in the southeast portion of the U.S. state of Alaska. It was under Russian America, Russian rule from 1799 to 1867. The city is situated on the west side of Baranof Island and the south half of Chichagof Island in the Alexander Archipelago of the Pacific Ocean (part of the Alaska Panhandle). Scholastic wrestling, sometimes referred to as folkstyle wrestling and commonly known as simply wrestling, is a style of amateur wrestling at the Secondary school, high school and middle school levels in the United States. It has often been labeled the "toughest sport in the world" because of the physical conditioning, mental preparation, complexity, and intense nature of its one-on-one competition. According to an athletics participation survey taken in 2006-07 by the National Federation of State High School Associations, 9,445 high schools sponsored boys' wrestling teams and 257,246 boys participated in the sport, making it the eighth-most available and sixth-most popular high school sport in the nation. Juneau-Douglas High School
Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé (abbreviated JDHS and named Juneau-Douglas High School through 2019) is one of two high schools in Juneau, Alaska. It is one of two high schools for the Juneau School District, the other being Yaaḵoosgé Daakahídi Alternative High School. As of the 2021–2022 school year, the school's principal is Paula Casperson. In 2019, the phrase "Yadaa.at Kalé" was appended to the school's name to honor the original Tlingit heritage of Juneau. The phrase means "beautifully adorned face" in the Tlingit language, and refers to the name of the mountain which faces the school. Japonski Island
Japonski Island (, , ) is a small island in the city of Sitka in the Alexander Archipelago of southeastern Alaska, United States. It lies across the Sitka Channel from Sitka's central business district. The island's name was devised during the Russian colonial period in reference to Japanese fishermen who were stranded there in 1805 and returned to Ezo in 1806. Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival
The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is an annual jazz festival, the largest west of the Mississippi River, that takes place in April on the campus of the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. In 2007, the festival was awarded the National Medal of Arts, the nation’s most prestigious arts award. About the festival The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is a modern tradition at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Dating from 1967, the festival was greatly expanded by Lynn "Doc" Skinner, who was involved since 1972, and took over as the director in 1977. Doc Skinner retired in 2006.
