Sir John MacLeod, 2nd Baronet
Sir John Mackintosh Norman MacLeod, 2nd Baronet (10 August 1891 – 23 September 1939) was a Scottish officer of arms. MacLeod was the eldest son of Sir John MacLeod, 1st Baronet and Edith Fielden, and on 6 March 1934 he succeeded to his father's title. He was an officer in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the First World War. Sir John MacLeod, 1st Baronet
Sir John Mackintosh MacLeod, 1st Baronet (5 May 1857 – 6 March 1934) was a Scottish MP for the Unionist Party. He sat for Glasgow Central from a by-election in 1915 to 1918, and for Glasgow Kelvingrove from 1918 to 1922. He was elected in 1918 as a supporter of David Lloyd George's coalition government. He was the second son of Rev. Norman MacLeod. He had an younger brother, the Scottish international rugby union footballer William MacKintosh MacLeod, and six sisters. McLeod was created a baronet in the 1924 Prime Minister's Resignation Honours. He married Edith Fielden in 1888. Unicorn Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary is a current Scottish pursuivant of arms in Ordinary of the Court of the Lord Lyon. The title was created after 1381, and derived from the unicorn. The Court of the Lord Lyon (the Lyon Court) is a standing court of law, based in New Register House in Edinburgh, which regulates heraldry in Scotland. The Lyon Court maintains the register of grants of arms, known as the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland, as well as records of genealogies. The Lyon Court is a public body, and the fees for grants of arms are paid to HM Treasury. It is headed by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, who must be legally qualified, as he has criminal jurisdiction in heraldic matters, and the court is fully integrated into the Scottish legal system, including having a dedicated prosecutor, known in Scotland as a procurator fiscal. Francis James Grant
Sir Francis James Grant (1863–1953) was a Scottish officer of arms who eventually rose to the office of Lord Lyon King of Arms. Grant served in the Court of the Lord Lyon as Carrick Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary beginning on 17 May 1886. This appointment lasted until his promotion to the office of Rothesay Herald of Arms in Ordinary and Lyon Clerk and Keeper of the Records on 8 September 1898. On 10 May 1929, he was appointed Lord Lyon King of Arms and Secretary of the Order of the Thistle. He was made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order in 1935. Grant retired from the office on 30 June 1945. He was the representative of Grant of Corrimony, and was the son of John Grant, Marchmont Herald of Arms in Ordinary from 1884 to 1888. Colonel Harold Andrew Balvaird Lawson (1899 – 1985) was a Scottish soldier and officer of arms in the Court of the Lord Lyon. Between 1929 and 1939, Lawson was Unicorn Pursuivant, before serving as Rothesay Herald from 1939 until his death. In this capacity he participated in the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. MacLeod Baronets
There have been two baronetcies created for persons with the surname MacLeod (pronounced "MacLoud"), both in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. As of 2014 both titles are extant. The MacLeod Baronetcy, of Fuinary, Morven, in the County of Argyll, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 3 March 1924 for John MacLeod, who had earlier represented Glasgow Central and Kelvingrove in the House of Commons as a Conservative. His grandson, the third Baronet (who succeeded his father), was killed on active service in 1944. He was succeeded by his uncle, the fourth Baronet, George MacLeod.
