The Sioux Falls Cougars are the athletic teams that represent the University of Sioux Falls, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the NCAA Division II ranks, primarily competing the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) since the 2012–13 academic year. Prior to joining the NCAA, the Cougars previously competed in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) from 2000–01 to 2010–11; and in the defunct South Dakota Intercollegiate Conference (SDIC) from 1977–78 to 1999–2000. Kalen DeBoer
Kalen Douglas DeBoer (born October 24, 1974) is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for the University of Alabama, a position he has held since 2024. He also served as the head coach at the Sioux Falls Cougars football, University of Sioux Falls from 2005 to 2009, Fresno State Bulldogs football, Fresno State from 2020 to 2021, and the Washington Huskies football, University of Washington from 2022 to 2023. Lindenwood University is a private university in St. Charles, Missouri, United States. 2009 Sioux Falls Cougars Football Team
The 2009 Sioux Falls Cougars football team represented the University of Sioux Falls in the 2009 NAIA football season. The Cougars won the 2009 NAIA Football National Championship with a 25–22 victory over the third-ranked . Additionally, the team secured the Great Plains Athletic Conference championship with a perfect 10–0 record. This marked the school's fourth NAIA national championship (1996, 2006, 2008) and its third in four years. The team was coached by Kalen DeBoer. Quarterback Lorenzo Brown was named the NAIA Player of the Year prior to the game. Sioux Falls ended the season with a 29-game winning streak going back through the 2008 season.
