Sing It Again
''Sing It Again'' is an American radio musical quiz program that was broadcast on CBS from May 29, 1948, through June 23, 1951. A television simulcast began on October 7, 1950. Overview ''Sing It Again'' offered people listening at home opportunities to win prizes by identifying a person, place, or thing from clues contained in original lyrics written for a popular song. The show's title came from its format, which had singers and an orchestra perform a song once using the original lyrics and then do the song again with lyrics that contained clues to the correct answer. Initially a correct answer gained $100 for the listener and an opportunity to identify a "phantom voice" for a prize that began at $1,000 and grew until the correct identification was made. During the show's first year on the air, it awarded more than $200,000 in prizes, with 10 "phantom voices" being named correctly. Alf Landon
Alfred Mossman Landon (September 9, 1887October 12, 1987) was an American oilman and politician who served as the 26th governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937. A member of the Republican Party, he was the party's nominee in the 1936 presidential election, and was defeated in a landslide by incumbent president Franklin D. Roosevelt. The margin of victory in the electoral college was the largest of Roosevelt's four elections to the office of president, as Landon won just 8 electoral votes to Roosevelt's 523. Landon died on October 12, 1987, becoming the only presidential candidate from either of the major parties to live to the age of 100 until Jimmy Carter in 2024, and is to date the only Republican candidate to do so. Al Stillman ''(né'' Albert Irving Silverman; 26 June 1901 Manhattan, New York City, New York – 17 February 1979 Manhattan, New York City, New York) was an American lyricist. Biography Al Stillman was born as Albert Irving Silverman to American Jews, Jewish parents Herman Silverman and Gertrude Rubin ''(maiden).'' He adopted the name "Albert Stillman" as a professional pseudonym. He chose the name, reportedly, because it was the recognizable surname of a well-known New York James Stillman, banking family. He was Jewish. He attended New York University. After graduation, he contributed to Franklin P. Adams' newspaper column, and in 1933 became a staff writer at Radio City Music Hall, a position he held for almost 40 years. ''Suspense'' is a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962. One of the premier drama programs of the Old-time radio, Golden Age of Radio, it was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on Suspense (genre), suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist. ''Suspense'' went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers.
