Sind–Pishin State Railway
The Sind–Pishin State Railway was the name of a broad gauge line that ran between Rohri, Sindh and Chaman, Balochistan. In 1886, the southern section of the Sind–Pishin State Railway was amalgamated with the Kandahar State Railway and several other railways to form the North Western State Railway (NWR). Today the line is still active and part of the Rohri–Chaman Railway Line. History *6 October 1879: First rail laid of the 20 mile section from Ruk to Sibi, at the entrance of the Nari Pass and this section was opened on 14 January 1880. The track of 133 miles had been laid in 101 days across the waterless desert by 5000 men and their animals. *1880: orders issued for the line to be extended Pishin and to be through the Harnai Pass rather than the Bolan Pass. James Browne (Indian Army Officer)
Major-General Sir James Browne (16 September 1839 – 13 June 1896), known as "Buster Browne", was a British military engineer and administrator in British India. Early life Browne was born in France, the son of Dr Robert Browne, a physician of Falkirk, Scotland. His father had practised medicine in Calcutta in the 1820s and 1830s, and there met his wife, who was the daughter of his patient, a Dutch merchant whose own English wife had recently died. He was educated in France and Germany and at Cheltenham College. He entered the East India Company's Military College at Addiscombe in February 1856, and received a commission in the Bengal Engineers on 11 December 1857. He arrived in India in December 1859. Scinde Railway
The Scinde Railway () was one of the pioneering railway companies that operated in Sind during the British Raj between 1855 and 1885. History The Scinde Railway was first established by deed of settlement in March 1855 and incorporated by the Scinde Railway Act 1855 ( 18 & 19 Vict. c. cxv) in July of that year. The company contracted with the government to construct a line between Karachi and Kotri. The company was granted a 5% return on investment up to a maximum of £1 million in order to build the 120-mile line. The Karachi-Kotri Railway Line work commenced in April 1858 and on 13 May 1861 succeeded in connecting Karachi to Kotri. Rail transport in Pakistan began in 1855 during the British Raj, when several railway companies began laying track and operating in present-day Pakistan. The country's rail system has been nationalised as Pakistan Railways (originally the Pakistan Western Railway). The system was originally a patchwork of local rail lines operated by small private companies, including the Scinde, Punjab and Delhi Railways and the Indus Steam Flotilla. In 1870, the four companies were amalgamated as the Scinde, Punjab & Delhi Railway. James Arthur Andersons first published short story appeared in Andrew J. Offutt's ''Swords Against Darkness V'' anthology in 1979. He has since published stories in Lin Carter's ''Weird Tales 4'', ''Elditch Tales'', ''Fantasy Tales'', and ''Haunts''. His nonfiction has appeared in ''Fangoria''. The North Western Railway (abbreviated NWR) is one of 19 railway zones in India. It is headquartered at Jaipur. It has a route length of more than across the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab and Haryana. NWR operates international rail service Thar Express from Jodhpur to Karachi.
