Simón Radowitzky
Simón Radowitzky (10 September or 10 November 1891 – 29 February 1956) was a militant Argentine worker and anarchist. He was one of the best-known prisoners of the penal colony in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, where he was held for the assassination of Ramón Lorenzo Falcón, a head of police responsible for the brutal repression of Red Week in 1909 in Buenos Aires. Radowitzky was sentenced to death, albeit his sentence was reduced to life in prison due to his young age. He was pardoned after 21 years, he left Argentina and fought with the Republicans during the Spanish Civil War. He died in Mexico where he worked in a factory making toys. The story of his life is described in the travel book '' In Patagonia'' by the English author Bruce Chatwin. History The North American Congress on Latin America was founded in November 1966 by leaders of the New Left movement to analyze the mainstream media coverage of the Johnson Administration's invasion of the Dominican Republic. In 1967 the NACLA began publishing what was then known as the ''NACLA Newsletter''. Later it adopted the name ''NACLA's Latin America and Empire Report'' and in 1977 adopted its present name, ''NACLA Report on the Americas''. The journal described itself as "the oldest and most widely read progressive magazine covering Latin America and its relationship with the United States". Severino Di Giovanni (17 March 1901 – 1 February 1931) was an Italian anarchist who immigrated to Argentina, where he became the best-known anarchist figure in that country for his campaign of violence in support of Sacco and Vanzetti and antifascism. Italy Di Giovanni was born on 17 March 1901, in Chieti, Abruzzo. Raised right after World War I in a period of deprivations, such as hunger and poverty, his upbringing had a huge impact on his politics. He attended courses to become a teacher, and soon started teaching, before graduating, in a school in his town.
