Siméon (film)
''Siméon'' is a 1992 French musical film directed by Euzhan Palcy. Synopsis Elderly music teacher Siméon dies and to keep his memory alive his granddaughter Orélie cuts off her braid, thus condemning him to become a Soucouyant. Siméon takes the opportunity to convince his son Isidore to continue his musical work. Euzhan Palcy
Euzhan Palcy (; born 13 January 1958) is a French film director, screenwriter, and producer. Her films are known to explore themes of race, gender, and politics, with an emphasis on the perpetuated effects of colonialism. Palcy's first feature film ''Sugar Cane Alley'' (1983) received numerous awards including the César Award for Best First Feature Film. For directing ''A Dry White Season'' (1989), she became the first black female director to have a film produced by a major Hollywood studio, that being by MGM. Palcy also directed the independent film '' Siméon'' (1992). She has since moved towards directing documentaries and television projects such as ''Aimé Césaire: A Voice for History'' (1994). She then directed the television films '' Ruby Bridges'' (1998) and ''The Killing Yard'' (2001), as well as the documentary ''The Journey of the Dissidents'' (2005) and the miniseries ''The Brides of Bourbon Island'' (2007). Gerty Dambury
Gerty Dambury (born 1957) is a writer, educator and theatre director from Guadeloupe. Since 1981, she has written several plays including ''Lettres indiennes'' (1996) translated as ''Crosscurrents'' (1997). Her first novel ''Les rétifs'' (2012) appeared in English as ''The Restless'' in 2018. It is centred on the police violence in French Guadeloupe in 1967. For her play ''Le rêve de William Alexander Brown'', she was awarded the Prix Carbet de la Caraïbe et du Tout-Monde in 2015. The Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF), previously named Brussels International Festival of Fantastic Film (french: Festival international du film fantastique de Bruxelles, nl, Internationaal Festival van de Fantastische Film van Brussel) was created in 1983 as a venue for horror, thriller and science fiction films. Alain Jean-Marie (born 1945 in Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe) is a French jazz pianist. Biography Jean-Marie taught himself to play piano from age eight. He played in dance orchestras in Guadeloupe (especially that of Robert Mavounzy), lived in Canada from 1967 to 1970 and then in the Antilles. He made his first recordings in 1969 (released in 1997 as ''piano biguines''). At the same time he played regularly with the trio of Winston Berkley and Jean Claude Montredon.
