Simon Sefzik
Simon A. Sefzik (born December 21, 1999) is an American politician of the Republican Party who served as a member of the Washington State Senate from the 42nd district. He assumed office on January 11, 2022. Early life and education Sefzik was born in Ferndale, Washington. He graduated ''summa cum laude'' with Highest Honors from Patrick Henry College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Government with a concentration in American Politics and Policy. Prior to attending Patrick Henry College, Simon was a four-time national high school forensics champion. Career A member of the Republican Party, Sefzik served as an intern in the office of Congressman Ted Budd and in the White House Office during the Trump Administration. On January 11, 2022, after the death of Washington state Senator Doug Ericksen, Simon was selected by the Whatcom County Council to finish Senator Ericksen's term. Sharon Anne Shewmake (born May 19, 1980) is an American politician of the Democratic Party, and a professor of Economics and Energy Policy at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. Shewmake represents the 42nd district in the Washington State Senate after serving two terms in the State House. Career Shewmake holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Davis, and Bachelor's degrees in both Economics and in Environmental Science and Policy from Duke University. Her academic work focuses on the economics of housing and transportation, the impacts of environmental policies, and microeconomics. Her publications have examined, among other subjects, the impacts of policies meant to reduce air pollution and congestion as well as how consumers respond to environmental labels, including labels for agricultural products. Theodore Paul Budd (born October 21, 1971) is an American businessman and politician who has served as the United States House of Representatives, U.S. representative for since 2017. Lynden Tribune
Lynden is a city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States. It is located north of Bellingham and approximately south of the Canada–US border. The city is located along the Nooksack River and State Route 539. The population of Lynden is about 14,259, according to the United States Census Bureau. Lynden is also home to the annual Northwest Washington Fair. History Lynden was founded in the 1870s by Holden and Phoebe Judson near the site of the Nooksack Indian village Squahamish. Phoebe Judson named it after the riverside town in ''Hohenlinden'', a poem by Thomas Campbell. According to her book, ''A Pioneer's Search for an Ideal Home'', she changed the spelling of "Linden" to be more visually appealing. Lynden was officially incorporated as a city on March 16, 1891. Whatcom County Council
The Whatcom County Council, the legislative body of Whatcom County, Washington, consists of seven members, five elected by district and two elected at large. The Council adopts laws, sets policy, and holds final approval over the budget. Councilmembers All elective offices in Whatcom County are officially nonpartisan.
