Simon Isaacs
Simon Isaacs QC (9 April 1905 – 17 June 1987) was an Australian barrister and judge. He served on the Supreme Court of New South Wales from 1964 to 1975. Early life Isaacs was born in London on 9 April 1905. He was one of five children of Herman and Elizabeth Isaacs, Dutch Jews from "impoverished families" who had arrived in England in the 1890s and worked as domestic servants. Isaacs spent his early years in Edmonton and Hackney. His father immigrated to Australia in 1910 and the rest of the family joined him in Sydney in 1914. He was educated at Bourke Street Public School in Surry Hills and Hurstville Public School, before winning a scholarship to attend Sydney Boys' High School. He went on to study law at the University of Sydney, graduating Bachelor of Laws with first-class honours. Queen's Counsel
A King's Counsel (Post-nominal letters, post-nominal initials KC) is a senior lawyer appointed by the monarch (or their Viceroy, viceregal representative) of some Commonwealth realms as a "Counsel learned in the law". When the reigning monarch is a woman, the title is Queen's Counsel (QC). The position originated in England and Wales. Some Commonwealth countries have retained the designation, while others have either abolished the position or renamed it so as to remove monarchical connotations — for example, "Senior Counsel" or "Senior Advocate". Appointment as King's Counsel is an office recognised by courts. Members in the UK have the privilege of sitting within the inner Bar (law), bar of court. Great Synagogue (Sydney)
The Great Synagogue is an Orthodox Jewish congregation located in a large heritage-listed synagogue at 187a Elizabeth Street in the Sydney central business district in the City of Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. The congregation is the oldest in the Sydney Jewish community, and comprises around 550 families. There are services every day of the week with the exception of Sunday. The service is Orthodox and traditional, with a professional choir singing on Shabbat and Festival mornings and at some evening services. Neville Wran
Neville Kenneth Wran, (11 October 1926 – 20 April 2014) was an Australian politician who was the Premier of New South Wales from 1976 to 1986. He was the national president of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) from 1980 to 1986 and chairman of both the Lionel Murphy Foundation and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) from 1986 to 1991.
