Simon Gegenheimer is a German cross-country mountain biker. He competes in the cross-country, cross-country eliminator, and cross-country marathon events. He won the German national championship in the cross-country eliminator in 2012, 2013, and 2016. Marathon mountain bike races, often referred to as cross-country cycling, cross-country marathon (XCM), are a very demanding form of mountain bike racing covering at least usually in mountainous terrain. 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup
The 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was a series of races in Olympic Cross-Country (XCO), Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE), and Downhill (DHI). Each discipline had an Elite Men and an Elite Women category. There were also men's and women's under-23 categories in the XCO and junior men's and women's categories in the DHI. The cross-country series had six rounds and the downhill series had seven rounds. The Cross-Country Eliminator (XCE) was included as a UCI World Cup discipline for the first time since 2014. Cross-country eliminator ''(XCE)'' is a Mountain bike racing, mountain bike race format in which four riders compete against each other over a very short course. In each heat, the two fastest riders get to the next round, while the two slower riders are eliminated from the race. It is similar to four-cross, except that the course is not downhill. Cross-country eliminator races have a maximum duration of 60 seconds. The format differs from the classic Cross-country cycling, cross-country race both in its sprint character and the separation of the race into heats.
