Simon Clarke (rugby Union)
Simon John Scott Clarke (2 April 1938 – 12 October 2017) was an English rugby union footballer who played internationally for England. He also played first-class cricket. Clarke, a scrum-half, made his Test debut in the 1963 Five Nations Championship. He appeared in all four fixtures, to help England claim their 17th title. Soon after, he took part in England's 1963 tour of Australasia. He played two Tests against New Zealand and one against Australia in Sydney, scoring the only try of his career in the latter. The following year, New Zealand toured England and Clarke played a Test against the All Blacks at Twickenham. He played the remaining five Tests of his career during both the 1964 and 1965 Five Nations Championships. A right-handed batsman, Clarke got his first taste of first-class cricket in 1958 when he played for a Combined Services team against Lancashire. Westcliff-on-Sea
Westcliff-on-Sea (often abbreviated to Westcliff) is an inner city area of the city of Southend-on-Sea, in the City of Southend-on-Sea, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It is on the north shore of the lower Thames Estuary, about 34 miles (55 km) east of London. Geography The cliffs formed by erosion of the local quaternary geology give views over the Thames Estuary towards the Kent coastline to the south. The coastline has been transformed into sandy beaches through the use of groynes and imported sand. The estuary at this point has extensive mud flats. In cricket, batting is the act or skill of hitting the ball with a bat to score runs and prevent the loss of one's wicket. Cambridge University Cricket Club
Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. The inaugural University Match between Cambridge and Oxford University Cricket Club was played in 1827 and the match was the club's sole remaining first class fixture each season until 2020. Lancashire County Cricket Club
Lancashire County Cricket Club represents the historic county of Lancashire in English cricket. The club has held first-class status since it was founded in 1864. Lancashire's home is Old Trafford Cricket Ground, although the team also play matches at other grounds around the county. Lancashire was a founder member of the County Championship in 1890 and have won the competition nine times, most recently in 2011. The club's limited overs team is called Lancashire Lightning.
