Simon Brown (boxer)
Simon Brown (born August 15, 1963, in Clarendon, Jamaica) is a former professional boxer. Known as "Mantequilla", a name given to him by his famous trainer Jose 'Pepe' Correa, Brown was two-weight world champion in the welterweight and light-middleweight divisions, and at one point considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in boxing. Professional boxing career Welterweight Brown began his career in 1982 at the age of 19 and ran off a string of 21 consecutive victories, prior to losing a split decision to Marlon Starling for the USBA welterweight title in 1985. Simon won three consecutive bouts, including a victory against undefeated former Olympian Shawn O'Sullivan to line up a shot at the vacant IBF welterweight title against Tyrone Trice. Welterweight
Welterweight is a weight class in combat sports. Originally the term "welterweight" was used only in boxing, but other combat sports like Muay Thai, taekwondo, and mixed martial arts also use it for their own weight division system to classify the opponents. In most sports that use it, welterweight is heavier than lightweight but lighter than middleweight. Etymology The first known instance of the term is from 1831, meaning "heavyweight horseman," later "boxer or wrestler of a certain weight" by 1896. This sense comes from earlier "welter" "heavyweight horseman or boxer" from 1804, possibly from "welt", meaning "to beat severely", from 15th century. Aaron Davis (boxer)
Aaron Davis (born April 8, 1967, in the Bronx, New York, United States) is a former professional boxer who was the welterweight champion of the world. Professional career Davis, known as "Superman", turned pro in 1986 and won his first 32 fights, including a 9th-round KO upset over Mark Breland to capture the WBA Welterweight Title in 1990. In 1993 he challenged Julio César Vásquez for the WBA Light Middleweight Title, but lost a close decision. He would never again fight for a major title, and he retired in 2002. Amateur career Davis won the 1986 New York Golden Gloves 147 lb Open Championship. Davis defeated Maurice Donovan of the Knights Community Center in the finals to win the Championship. In 1985 Davis advanced to the finals of the 147 lb Open division and was defeated by Bradley Austin of the Jerome Boys Club. Mandalay Bay Events Center
The Michelob Ultra Arena, formerly the Mandalay Bay Events Center, is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose indoor arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International, and was opened on April 10, 1999. MGM and brewing company Anheuser-Busch entered a naming-rights agreement in 2021, naming the arena after the company's Michelob Ultra beer. Glenwood Brown (born July 25, 1967 in Plainfield, New Jersey, United States) is a former American professional boxer in the welterweight (147 lb) division. Amateur career Brown trained at the Plainfield Boys Club in Plainfield, New Jersey and won the 1986 New York Golden Gloves 139 lb Open Championship. Spodek
Spodek (meaning "saucer" in Polish) is a multipurpose arena complex in Katowice, Poland, opened on 9 May 1971. Aside from the main dome, the complex includes a gym, an ice rink, a hotel and three large car parks. It was the largest indoor venue of its kind in Poland until it was surpassed by Tauron Arena in 2014. The Spodek hosts many important cultural and business events. Music concerts are especially common non-sport events. It can hold around 11,500 people, although this number is in practice limited to 10,000 or even 8,000 due to stage set-ups obscuring the view. Mads Larsen (born 9 February 1973) is a former professional boxer who competed from 1993 to 2012. He held the IBO super middleweight title from 1997 to 1999. He challenged once for the unified WBA (Super) and IBF super middleweight titles in 2003. At regional level, he held the EBU European super middleweight title in 2003. Professional career In October 1993, Larsen turned professional winning his first fight in Storebaelthallen, Korsoer, Denmark on the undercard of a bill that included Danish stars Johnny Bredahl, Jimmy Bredahl and Brian Nielsen. United Center is an indoor arena on the Near West Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. David Terrell Reid (born September 17, 1973) is a former boxer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Amateur career Reid had a stellar amateur boxing career, culminating with a come-from-behind, one-punch knock out win to secure a gold medal at the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.
