Edmond Simeoni
Edmond Simeoni (6 August 1934 – 14 December 2018) was a Corsican doctor, politician and nationalist. He was the brother of Max Simeoni, Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1989 to 1994 and father of Gilles Simeoni. Simeoni, together with his brother Max, were the leaders of the Aleria siege, which started the modern Corsican nationalism. Biography Simeoni was born 6 August 1934 in Corte, Corsica. His father was Ferdinand Simeoni, who was the mayor of Lozzi. He grew up in Francardu and graduated at the Bastia High School. Giovanni Simeoni (July 12, 1816 – January 14, 1892) was an Italian prelate of the Catholic Church who was appointed a cardinal in 1875 and served as Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for Propagation of the Faith from 1878 until his death in 1892. Biography Giovanni Simeoni was born in Paliano; his father was a majordomo of the Colonna family. He attended the seminary in Palestrina before going to Rome to study at the '' Collegio Romano'' and ''La Sapienza'' University, where he studied theology and canon law. The Colonna family subsidized his studies. Simeoni was ordained to the priesthood in 1839. Career Simeoni made his Serie A debut for Livorno on 17 April 2010, in the game against Chievo when he came on as a substitute in the 79th minute for Martin Bergvold. Max Simeoni (28 August 1929 – 9 September 2023) was a French Corsican physician and politician. He was a member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 1989 to 1994. Life and career Simeoni was elected to the European Parliament in 1989 as a candidate of the autonomist Union of the Corsican People on the list of the French Greens led by Antoine Waechter. His parliamentary assistant was François Alfonsi, who himself became an MEP in 2009. Like Djida Tazdaït, the other non-Green MEP elected on the list, he refused to abide by the Greens ''tourniquet'' rule by which every elected official had to resign at mid-term to prevent the political professionalization. Sara Simeoni (born 19 April 1953) is an Italian former high jumper, who won a gold medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics and twice set a world record in the women's high jump. Biography Sara Simeoni was born in Rivoli Veronese, in the province of Verona. She soon took up athletics, specialising in the high jump. Her first international result was at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki, where she ended 9th with a 178 cm jump. Her first international success was at the 1976 in Montreal, where she won a silver medal, with a personal best of 1.91 m, and was beaten only by Rosemarie Ackermann's 1.93 m leap. In August 1978, she set the new world record with 2.01 m in Brescia (this jump stood as a national record until Antonietta Di Martino jumped 2.02 in June 2007).
