Silvertone (brand)
Silvertone is a brand created and promoted by Sears for its line of consumer electronics and musical instruments from 1916 to 1972. The rights to the Silvertone brand were purchased by South Korean corporation Samick Music in 2001. Samick made new musical instruments under the Silvertone brand and relaunched some historic models. In 2020, RBI Music was appointed the exclusive worldwide distributor of the Silvertone brand, and in December 2021, RBI acquired all rights to the brand. Musical instruments under the Silvertone name are electric and acoustic guitars, basses, accordions, and ukuleles. History Beginnings Sears filed for Silvertone as a trademark in late 1915 to be used as a house brand for a line phonographs and records. It was approved in early 1916 with their first phonograph models appearing in their Spring 1916 catalog and the records following later that year. The Silvertones
The Silvertones (who also recorded as The Valentines, The Gold Tones, The Admirals and The Muskyteers) are a Jamaican reggae harmony group formed in 1964, best known for their recordings for Lee "Scratch" Perry in the early 1970s. In 1964 three vocalists – Delroy Denton, Keith Coley, and Gilmore Grant – came together to form The Silvertones. In 1965 they had success with the singles "True Confession" and "It’s Real", both produced by Duke Reid and released on the Dr. Bird Label. The Silvertones also released "Cool Down" by Duke Reid. In 1968, The Silvertones released a cover version of Wilson Pickett's song "In The Midnight Hour". Other singles included "Old Man River" and "Slow and Easy" on Reid's Treasure Isle label. They recorded for Sonia Pottinger "Guns Fever" and by 1971 were recording releases such as "Tear Drops Will Fall" for Clancy Eccles. The Guess Who
The Guess Who was a Canadian rock band formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1965. The band found their greatest success in the late 1960s and early 1970s, under the leadership of singer/keyboardist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, with hit songs including " American Woman", " These Eyes", " No Time", “ Laughing”, and “ Share the Land”. During their most successful period, the Guess Who released eleven studio albums, all of which reached the charts in Canada and the United States. Their 1970 album '' American Woman'' reached no. 1 in Canada and no. 9 in the United States, while five other albums reached the top ten in Canada. The Guess Who charted fourteen Top 40 singles in the United States and more than thirty in Canada. ''Silvertone'' is the debut album by American musician Chris Isaak, released in 1985. It was named after the band that Isaak co-founded and led, though only guitarist James Calvin Wilsey is credited on the album. The album sold poorly in the US but became a minor hit in Australia, peaking at #77 in June 1986. Background and recording The band Silvertone consisted of Isaak (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), James Wilsey (lead guitar, backing vocals), Jamie Ayers (upright bass) and John Silvers (drums) from 1980 to 1982. The band became involved with veteran producer Erik Jacobsen within a year of forming and signed with his production company. Jacobsen interested Warner Bros. Records in signing the band, and the label allotted them a small budget to record demos; however, neither Warner Bros. nor the band members were happy with the recordings. Chris Isaak
Christopher Joseph Isaak (born June 26, 1956) is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist and occasional actor. Noted for his reverb-laden rockabilly revivalist style and wide vocal range, he is popularly known for his breakthrough hit and signature song " Wicked Game"; as well as international hits such as "Blue Hotel", " Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing", and " Somebody's Crying". With a career spanning four decades, Isaak has released 13 studio albums, toured extensively with his band Silvertone, and received numerous award nominations. His sound and image are often compared to those of Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, and Duane Eddy.
