Silverstream Bridge Railway Station
Silverstream Bridge railway station was a station on the Hutt Valley Line section of the Wairarapa Line in New Zealand from 1908 until 28 February 1954, when the Melling-Belmont section of the line and the first rail bridge at Silverstream was closed. It was replaced by the Silverstream railway station. The station was just across the old rail bridge, in the corner of the Silverstream Hospital grounds. The building was built on a slight curve. It was unusual, being extra long and open on three sides. The back wall had three double doors from the platform. The Hutt Valley Line is the electrified train service operated by Transdev Wellington on behalf of Metlink on the section of the Wairarapa Line railway between Wellington and Upper Hutt, New Zealand. Wairarapa Line
The Wairarapa Line is a secondary railway line in the south-east of the North Island of New Zealand. The line runs for , connects the capital city Wellington with the Palmerston North - Gisborne Line at Woodville, New Zealand, Woodville, via Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt and Masterton. The first part of the line opened in 1874 between Wellington and Lower Hutt, with the entire line to Woodville completed in 1897. Melling railway station is the terminal station on the single track Melling Line in Lower Hutt, New Zealand. The single platform station serves the suburb of Melling. The station is served by Metlink's electric multiple unit trains. History The station used to be on the Hutt Valley Line section of the Wairarapa Line until 1 March 1954, when the Melling-Belmont section of the line on the western side of the Hutt Valley was closed and the through line to Upper Hutt and the Wairarapa rerouted through the centre of the valley. The truncated line to Melling was then electrified. The new station erected at the same time was about 100m closer to Wellington to avoid a level crossing at the Melling Link Road over the Hutt River. Pitcaithly's Railway Station
Pitcaithly’s railway station and siding was a station on the Hutt Valley Line section of the Wairarapa Line in New Zealand north of Melling, which ran up the western side of the valley until 1954. It was replaced by Andrews railway station in 1938. History Pitcaithly’s was one of several stations opened in 1908 on the Hutt Valley section of the line, along with Melling, Gosse and Co’s siding, the Belmont Quarry Co’s Siding (which is not to be confused with the Belmont railway station), and the Silverstream Bridge railway station. Pitcaithly’s was closed in 1938 and the building moved to the Andrews railway station south of Gosse and Co’s siding. The distance moved south was about 1.2 km on the sketch map, but based on the difference in distance from Wellington (11.13 and 13.40 miles). The Hutt Valley (or 'The Hutt') is the large area of fairly flat land in the Hutt River, New Zealand, Hutt River valley in the Wellington Region, Wellington region of New Zealand. Like the river that flows through it, it takes its name from Sir William Hutt (British MP), William Hutt, a director of the New Zealand Company in early colonial New Zealand. The river flows roughly along the course of an active geologic fault, which continues to the south to become the main instrument responsible for the uplift of the South Island's Southern Alps / Kā Tiritiri o te Moana. Silver Stream Railway
Silver Stream Railway is a heritage railway at Silverstream in the Hutt Valley near Wellington, New Zealand. It regularly operates preserved New Zealand Railways Department locomotives along a restored section of the Hutt Valley Line (part of the Wairarapa Line) before a deviation was built in 1954. History The beginnings of Silver Stream Railway were in 1967 when the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Railway and Locomotive Society began a collection of locomotives and rolling stock. Tracklaying on the old formation of the Hutt Valley Line did not begin until 1977. The collection of locomotives and rolling stock had previously been stored at a site by the Gracefield Branch in Seaview, and this was transferred to the present Silverstream site in 1984.
