The Silver Star Medal (SSM) is the United States Armed Forces' third-highest military decoration for valor in combat. The Silver Star Medal is awarded primarily to members of the United States Armed Forces for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States. History The Silver Star Medal (SSM) is the successor award to the Citation Star which was established by an Act of Congress on 9 July 1918, during World War I. On 19 July 1932, the Secretary of War approved the conversion of the Citation Star to the SSM with the original Citation Star incorporated into the center of the medal. Authorization for the Silver Star Medal was placed into law by an Act of Congress for the U.S. Navy on 7 August 1942, and an Act of Congress for the U.S. Army on 15 December 1942. Silver Star Mountain Resort (Silver Star) is a ski resort located near Silver Star Provincial Park in the Shuswap Highland of the Monashee Mountains, 22 km northeast of the city of Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. Silver Star's snow season runs from late November to mid-April, weather permitting. Silver Star provides summer lift access for mountain biking and hiking from the end of June through September. Silver Star's current government leadership consists of local mayor Amanda Shatzko, MP Mel Arnold, and MLA Harwinder Sandhu. Terrain Silver Star has an annual snowfall of 700 cm or 23 ft (7.0 m). The Skytone Alpha-400 is a Linux-based low-cost netbook with a 7 in 800×480 LCD screen, introduced in 2008. Its measurements (length×width×depth) are 210 mm × 140 mm × 32 mm and it weighs 0.65 kg. It was made in China by Guangzhou Skytone Transmission Technologies Co and Exon International Technology Co Ltd, with the former providing the Linux software and the latter producing the hardware. It uses a Chinese Ingenic Semiconductor, Ingenic Jz4730 336 MHz MIPS architecture, MIPSII-compatible one core 32-bit system-on-a-chip (SoC) with 128 MiB of SDRAM, and a 1–2 GB solid state drive. Silver Star is a steel roller coaster located at Europa-Park, a theme park in Rust, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The coaster has a height of and a drop of 67 metres (220 ft), placing it in the hyper coaster category. At the time of its opening, Silver Star was the tallest coaster constructed by Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M). It was later surpassed by Shambhala at PortAventura Park (76 m/249 ft); the record currently belongs to Fury 325 at Carowinds (99 m/325 ft). The ''Silver Star'' was a luxury passenger train that ran overnight between Auckland and Wellington on the North Island Main Trunk (NIMT) railway of New Zealand, operated by New Zealand Railways (NZR). The train ran from Monday 6 September 1971 until Sunday 8 June 1979. It replaced the ''Night Limited'' express passenger trains which provided a faster service than the ordinary express trains, by stopping at only six intermediate stations (Palmerston North, Marton, Taumarunui, Taihape, Te Kuiti, Frankton) en route and not hauling a postal (sorting) van as on previous trains. Designed as a "hotel on wheels", the service was unsuccessful and attempts to re-use the rolling stock were thwarted by the presence of asbestos in the carriages. The Canadair CT-133 Silver Star (company model number CL-30) is the Canadian license-built version of the Lockheed T-33 jet trainer aircraft, in service from the 1950s to 2005. The Canadian version was powered by the Rolls-Royce Nene, Rolls-Royce Nene 10 turbojet, instead of the original Allison J33. The San Antonio Stars were a professional basketball team based in San Antonio, playing in the Western Conference in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Platinum Stars was a South African football club based in Phokeng near Rustenburg, North West Province that played in the Premier Soccer League.
