Siltbreeze Records Artists
Siltbreeze is an American independent record label based in Philadelphia. It is known for its eclectic roster of artists and releases of Experimental music, experimental, Noise music, noise, Folk music, folk, and rock-based music. Founded in 1989 by Ohio native Tom Lax, the label evolved out of a zine of the same name which he published from 1987 until 1992. The first label release was a Halo of Flies EP, and soon after, Lax produced a steady stream of record releases by the Dead C, Jeffrey Evans, the Gibson Bros., Sebadoh, the Strapping Fieldhands, Harry Pussy, Jim Shepard, and Mike Rep among others throughout the early and mid 1990s. The label slowed its output toward the later 1990s until the mid and late 2000s. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small and medium-sized enterprise, small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Ashtray Navigations
Ashtray Navigations is an English experimental music group centred upon Phil Todd and active since 1991. Colloquially referred to as "Ash Nav", the group operates out of Todd's home in Stoke-on-Trent, from which he also ran the record labels Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers and, subsequently, Memoirs of an Aesthete. The project has also released music through labels such as Siltbreeze, Jewelled Antler, American Tapes, Fargone Records, Menlo Park, E.F. Tapes and Freedom From. Whilst the music evades easy categorisation due to variations in sound, approach and personnel, it often incorporates extended droning and lengthy guitar pieces. Roy Montgomery
Roy Montgomery (born 1959) is a composer, guitarist and lecturer from Christchurch, New Zealand. Montgomery's mostly instrumental solo works have elements of post-rock, lo-fi, folk and avant-garde experimentation. His signature sound might be described as atmospheric or cinematic, often featuring complex layers of chiming, echoing and/or droning guitar phrases. He is currently head of the environmental management department at Lincoln University in New Zealand. Montgomery has played in several bands since the late 1970s, most notably The Pin Group, Dadamah, Dissolve and Hash Jar Tempo. He has released solo albums on labels including Kranky and Drunken Fish, as well as collaborations with artists like Flying Saucer Attack and Grouper. The Mad Scene
Hamish Kilgour (17 March 1957 – November or December 2022) was a New Zealand musician who co-founded the indie rock band the Clean with his brother David in 1978. Kilgour also co-founded the band Bailter Space in 1987 as well as the band the Mad Scene in the 1990s. He later recorded as a solo artist. Career Kilgour was born in Christchurch on 17 March 1957. After the Clean temporarily split up in the early 80s, Kilgour co-founded the Christchurch space rock band Bailter Space in 1987, and recorded the '' Nelsh Bailter Space'' EP and ''Tanker'' album with the band. In the late 1980s, while on a promotional tour with Bailter Space in New York City, Kilgour decided to remain in the city and left the band. Alan Licht
Alan Licht (born June 6, 1968) is an American guitarist and composer, whose work combines elements of pop, noise, free jazz and minimalism. He is also a writer and journalist. Biography Licht was born in New Jersey in 1968. His earliest musical influences, in the 1970s, were mainstream rock bands like the Bee Gees and Wings—he remarks in an interview with ''Paris Transatlantic'' magazine that 'What made me want to play guitar was that painting of Wings in concert in the gatefold of ''Wings Over America''. It looked so exciting... I wanted to be part of it.' Later, in school, he listened to punk and no wave bands like Mission of Burma, Hüsker Dü and Sonic Youth. However, his musical trajectory was set when his guitar teacher gave him a copy of Steve Reich's ''Music for 18 Musicians'', which would lead to his discovery of other minimalist music. Kitchen's Floor
Kitchen's Floor is an Australian independent alternative rock band from Brisbane, Queensland. Known for their raw and lo-fi sound, Kitchen's Floor has gained a dedicated following in the underground music scene since their inception in 2007. Their music has been released on labels Siltbreeze, Negative Guest List, R.I.P Society, Quemada, Bedroom Suck Records, Bruit Direct Disques, HoZac Records, Petty Bunco, and Eternal Soundcheck. Alastair Galbraith (musician)
Alastair Galbraith (born 1965) is a New Zealand musician and sound artist from Dunedin. Career Galbraith's first band was The Rip, which he formed with Robbie Muir, and Mathew Ransome and later Jeff Harford (of Bored Games). They released two EPs on the Flying Nun label. Later he formed Plagal Grind, with Robbie Muir, Jono Lonie, David Mitchell (of Goblin Mix and The 3Ds) and Peter Jefferies (of This Kind Of Punishment and Nocturnal Projections). The Dead C
The Dead C are a New Zealand music and art trio consisting of members Bruce Russell, Michael Morley and Robbie Yeats, formed in Dunedin. Russell is a co-lead guitarist, Morley sings and plays guitar or laptop, and Yeats is a drummer. They have been variously praised and cited as an influence by indie musicians such as Thurston Moore and Pavement, as well as the post-rock acts Bardo Pond, Flying Saucer Attack and Labradford. Charalambides
Charalambides is an avant-garde musical group originally from Houston, Texas, United States and lately of Austin, Texas. They were formed in 1991 under the short-lived name Mutual Admiration Society by Tom Carter, Christina Carter and Kyle Silfer, and later members have since included Jason Bill and Heather Leigh Murray. The band has long considered itself primarily a duo between Tom and Christina Carter. Their music contains elements typical of psychedelic music such as reverb, backwards recording, extended instrumental jamming and the use of found sounds, which led to them being described as part of the New Weird America movement.
