Silme Domingo
Silme Domingo (January 25, 1952 – June 2, 1981) was a Filipino American labor activist. With Gene Viernes, he was murdered in Seattle on June 1, 1981, while attempting to reform the Local 37 of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). Biography Silme Domingo was born in Killeen, Texas, Killeen, Texas, on January 25, 1952, as one of the five children of Nemesio and Adelina Domingo. He grew up in Texas and his family moved to Seattle in 1960. Silme attended Ballard High School (Seattle, Washington), Ballard High School and graduated with honors from the University of Washington, where he was a Student activism, student activist. The Bantayog ng mga Bayani (), sometimes simply referred to as the Bantayog, is a monument, museum, and historical research center in Quezon City, Philippines, which honors the martyrs and heroes of the struggle against the Martial law under Ferdinand Marcos, dictatorship of the 10th Filipino president Ferdinand Marcos. Pioneer Square, Seattle
Pioneer Square is a neighborhood in the southwest corner of downtown Seattle, Washington, US. It was once the heart of the city: Seattle's founders settled there in 1852, following a brief six-month settlement at Alki Point on the far side of Elliott Bay. The early structures in the neighborhood were mostly wooden, and nearly all burned in the Great Seattle Fire of 1889. By the end of 1890, dozens of brick and stone buildings had been erected in their stead; to this day, the architectural character of the neighborhood derives from these late 19th century buildings, mostly examples of Richardsonian Romanesque. Cindy Domingo
Cindy Domingo is a Filipina-American activist and community organizer from Seattle, Washington. Domingo played a key role in Asian American and Filipino American activism in the 1970s and 1980s and became a leader in her community. Early life and family Cindy Domingo grew up in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood with four siblings, among them Silme Domingo. Her father, Nemesio Domingo, Sr., was in the US army and had participated in the Philippines campaign during World War II. The family lived in Texas and Germany prior to moving to Seattle in 1960. Her father later worked as a farm laborer and was elected vice president of the Cannery Workers and Farm Laborers Union (ILWU local 37). Violeta Marasigan (1939-21 April 2000), better known by her nickname "Bullet X", or more plainly "Bullet", was a Filipino-American social worker and activist best known for her key role in the International Hotel eviction protests which became an important incident in Filipino American history; as well as her resistance against and eventual imprisonment under the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos; and for helping establish the Filipino feminist organization GABRIELA and the released-political-detainees group SELDA. The history of Filipino Americans begins in the 16th century when Filipinos first arrived in what is now the United States. The first Filipinos came to what is now the United States due to the Philippines being part of New Spain.
