Silicon Valley Roller Girls
The Silicon Valley Roller Derby (SVRD) roller derby league is based in San Jose, California. Founded in 2007, the league currently consists of three teams which compete against teams from other leagues. Silicon Valley is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History The league played its first bout in August 2008, against the Port City Roller Girls. SVRG was accepted into the Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice Program in September 2009, and became a full member of the WFTDA in June 2010. One former Silicon Valley skater, Brazilian Bombshell, competed for Roller Derby Brasil at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup. The San Jose McEnery Convention Center (commonly known simply as the San Jose Convention Center) is a convention center in Downtown San Jose, California. The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body for the sport of women's flat track roller derby. It sets the international standards for rankings, rules, and competition in the sport, and provides guidance and resources to aid development of roller derby. The organization was founded in April 2004 as the United Leagues Coalition (ULC), but was renamed in November 2005. It is registered in Raleigh, North Carolina as a 501(c)(6) Business League organization, a type of nonprofit organization. Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice
The Women's Flat Track Derby Association Apprentice was the program affiliate of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). In operation from 2009 until early 2019, the Apprentice Program served to onboard new member leagues into the WFTDA. In February 2019, the WFTDA announced it was retiring the program, to be replaced with a new "New Member Program" in the near future. History In July 2009, the WFTDA announced its new apprentice program for aspiring member leagues that replaced its traditional membership application process. The program is designed to act as a "WFTDA 101" tutorial, and will match new leagues with an established WFTDA mentor, who will guide the apprentice through the processes and requirements necessary to becoming a full member. Roller Derby Brasil (Team Brasil) represents Brazil in women's international roller derby, such as at the Roller Derby World Cup. Team Brasil is composed of roller derby players from Brazil, who are selected in tryouts to compete at the national level. Team Brasil is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization, run by the Brazilian skaters. First formed in 2011, Team Brasil first competed at the 2011 Roller Derby World Cup, held in Toronto, Canada.
