Silicon Milkroundabout
Silicon Milkroundabout is a series of job fairs held in London and Edinburgh for the UK tech start-up community. The event's name is a portmanteau of Silicon Roundabout and the Milk round university recruiting events. History The company was founded by Cristiana Camisotti, Ian Hogarth, and Pete Smith - the latter two are also the founders of Songkick - in 2011. Its inaugural event took place in a pub with 40 start-up companies. The initiative was supported by David Cameron's initiative Tech City. The event was expanded into Scotland in 2015 as Silicon Milkroundabout Scotland 1.0. This event was held in Edinburgh with 40 companies and 450 attendees. East London Tech City (also known as Tech City and Silicon Roundabout) is a technology cluster of high-tech companies located in East London, United Kingdom. Its main area lies broadly between St Luke's and Hackney Road, with an accelerator space for spinout companies at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. A cluster of web businesses initially developed around the Old Street Roundabout in 2008. The area had historically been relatively poor compared to the City of London, and was known as the 'City Fringe'. Milk Round
The milkround is the term commonly used in the UK to describe the semester of companies touring colleges each year, in order to advertise their companies and recruit students. An online university student website is also called Milkround, which is an online version of the traditional method in which business recruited university students. Ian Hogarth
Ian Hogarth is the co-founder and chairman of Songkick. Hogarth studied Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cambridge. Songkick Hogarth founded live music startup Songkick with friends Michelle You and Pete Smith in 2007. Smith and Hogarth met at Cambridge, Hogarth and You met in Beijing; they shared a love of live music and formed Songkick, which was part of the 2007 Y Combinator (company), Y Combinator program in Boston.
