Silas Allred
Silas Allred (born May 28, 2002) is an American folkstyle and freestyle wrestler who competes at 184 pounds for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is a two-time Indiana state champion and a Big Ten champion. Amateur wrestling career High school Allred attended Shenandoah High School in Middletown, Indiana. He finished his high school career with a 146–2 record, making three trips IHSAA State Finals, and becoming a back-to-back state champion in 2019 and 2020. Allred won the ISWA State Finals triple crown in 2017, making the USA Wrestling Cadet National Championships. Allred would not place in freestyle but would place fourth in Greco-Roman, earning Fargo All-American status. Anderson, named after Chief William Anderson, is a city in and the county seat of Madison County, Indiana, United States. It is the principal city of the Anderson, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses Madison County. Scholastic wrestling, also known in the United States as folkstyle wrestling, is a style of amateur wrestling practiced at the high school and middle school levels in the United States. This wrestling style is essentially collegiate wrestling with some slight rule modifications. According to an athletics participation survey taken by the National Federation of State High School Associations, boys' wrestling ranked eighth in terms of the number of schools sponsoring teams, with 9,445 schools participating in the 2006–07 school year. Also, 257,246 boys participated in the sport during that school year, making scholastic wrestling the sixth most popular sport among high school boys. Yonger Bastida
Yonger Pauli Bastida Pomares (born September 19, 1999) is a Cuban freestyle and former folkstyle wrestler who competes at heavyweight for the Iowa State Cyclones. In freestyle, he is most notably a U23 and U20 World Championship medalist. In folkstyle, Bastida is an NCAA Division I All-American out of the Iowa State University. Early life and career in Cuba Born in Trinidad, Cuba, Bastida became one of the most promising prospects in his native country in 2019, when he broke into the international scene. A pin, or fall, is a victory condition in various forms of wrestling that is met by holding an opponent's shoulders or scapulae (shoulder blades) on the wrestling mat for a prescribed period of time. This article deals with the pin as it is defined in amateur wrestling. A pin ends a match regardless of when it occurs. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling
The University of Iowa men's wrestling program is one of the most successful athletic programs in NCAA Division I. The University of Iowa Hawkeyes are a member of the Big Ten Conference. Iowa is second in NCAA history with 24 National Championships while finishing as a runner-up six times, with each of their championship appearances being since 1975. The Minnesota Golden Gophers are a Division I college wrestling team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They are a member of the Big Ten Conference and NCAA. Wrestling began at the University of Minnesota in 1910, but the first formal dual meet was not until 1921 when coach Frank Gilman led the team to a victory over Wisconsin.
