Sigurd Frosterus
Sigurd Frosterus (4 June 1876 – 2 March 1956) was a Finnish architect, art critic, and art collector. Born in Asikkala, Frosterus graduated from Helsinki University with a degree in art history in 1899, and earned a diploma of architecture in 1902 at Polytechnical Institute. In 1920, he earned his doctorate at the University with a dissertation on the use of colour in art. Frosterus had an architectural office from 1902–1904 with Gustaf Strengell and from 1918–1935 with Ole Gripenberg. Frosterus and Strengell designed villas and manor houses, including Tamminiemi, which was an official residence of the President of Finland from 1940 until 1981. Frosterus's best-known work is the Stockmann department store in Helsinki. The architecture competition was held in 1916, but the building was not finished until 1930. Helsinki University of Technology (TKK; ; , HUT in international usage) was a technical university in Finland. It was located in Otaniemi, Espoo in the Helsinki metropolitan area, and it was one of the three universities from which the modern day Aalto University was founded. The university was founded in 1849 by Grand Duke of Finland, Emperor Nicholas I and received university status in 1908. It moved from Helsinki to Otaniemi campus area in 1966. Tamminiemi (; ) is a villa and Historic house museum, house museum located in the Meilahti district of Helsinki, Finland. It was one of the three official residences of the President of Finland, from 1940 to 1982. From 1956, until his death in 1986, it served as the residence of President Urho Kekkonen. Since 1987, it has been the Urho Kekkonen Museum. Tamminiemi is located in a park by the sea. Kymi (river)
The Kymi (, ) is a river in Finland. It begins at Lake Päijänne, flows through the provinces of Päijänne Tavastia, Uusimaa and Kymenlaakso, and discharges into the Gulf of Finland. The river passes the towns of Heinola and Kouvola. The town of Kotka is located on the river delta. The length of the river is , but its drainage basin of extends to almost inside the Tavastia, Central Finland, Savonia and Ostrobothnia. Vanajanlinna Manor
Vanajanlinna Manor is a historic mansion in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The manor is situated next to Lake Katuma (Katumajärvi). It was designed by Finnish architect Sigurd Frosterus and built in the 1920s by Finnish business magnate Carl Wilhelm Rosenlew.
