Sierra Club Foundation
The Sierra Club Foundation is an American nonprofit charitable organization focused on environmental efforts. It is an independent 501(c)(3) social welfare organization, the fiscal sponsor of the charitable programs of the Sierra Club. The organization's stated mission is to "help educate, inspire, and empower humanity to preserve the natural and human environment." Based in Oakland, California and founded in 1960, the Sierra Club Foundation funds a range of environmental projects. Notable members of the board of directors have included Lynn Jurich, Mike Richter, and Darren Aronofsky. The corporate officers, as of August 2023, are Robin Mann, Joel Sanders, Jessica Sarowitz, and Rebekah Saul Butler. In 1999, it was the 14th largest recipient of public donations amongst environmental groups. Sierra Club
The Sierra Club is an American environmental organization with chapters in all 50 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., Washington D.C., and Puerto Rico. The club was founded in 1892, in San Francisco, by preservationist John Muir. A product of the Progressivism in the United States, progressive movement, it was one of the first large-scale environmental preservation organizations in the world. Beyond Coal
The Beyond Coal movement is a campaign by environmental group the Sierra Club to promote renewable energy instead of coal. Their primary objective is to close coal power plants in the United States, including at least one-third of the country's more than 500 coal plants by 2020, and to replace them with renewable energy sources. The campaign is also active in other countries; for example, they are trying to prevent the construction of the Kosovo C thermal power plant near Pristina, Kosovo; to this end, they have collaborated with academic and Obama administration climate advisor Dan Kammen. The conservation movement, also known as nature conservation, is a political, environmental, and social movement that seeks to manage and protect natural resources, including animal, fungus, and plant species as well as their habitat for the future. Conservationists are concerned with leaving the environment in a better state than the condition they found it in. Evidence-based conservation seeks to use high quality scientific evidence to make conservation efforts more effective. Global Warming

Sustainability is a social goal for people to co-exist on Earth over a long period of time. Definitions of this term are disputed and have varied with literature, context, and time. Sustainability usually has three dimensions (or pillars): environmental, economic, and social. Many definitions emphasize the environmental dimension. Thornewood Open Space Preserve
Thornewood Open Space Preserve is a small regional park located in the Santa Cruz Mountains in San Mateo County. The park lies in the San Francisco Bay Area and is operated by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. It offers approximately of hiking and equestrian trails and is dog-friendly. The Schilling Lake Trail leads to Schilling Lake, a protected wildlife habitat. This trail offers brief views of the southern San Francisco Bay, Palo Alto (including Stanford University's Hoover Tower) and surrounding cities, and the Diablo Range. From Schilling Lake, the Bridle Trail leads to Old La Honda Road. The name ''Thornewood'' comes from Julian and Edna Bloss Thorne, who developed the land in the 1920s.
