Sierra (group)
Sierra was an American Contemporary Christian music, Christian pop trio (music), trio formed by Wendi Foy Green (wife of well-known producer and sound engineer, Brian Green), Jennifer Hendrix, and Deborah Schnelle (wife of studio songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Rex Paul Schnelle). Founded in 1992, the vocal-based trio released their first full-length, self-titled album in 1994 on the Contemporary Christian music label, Star Song. In 1998, Deborah Schnelle left the group and was soon replaced by Marianne Tutalo (wife of Coury Adams). After the release of five albums which produced a string of CCM radio hits including seven to reach No. 1, the group disbanded in 2002. In 2004, Jennifer Hendrix and Marianne Tutalo formed the CCM worship band, Abide. Star Song
Star Song Communications is a Christian record label that was started in 1976 by Wayne Donowho, who recruited his friend Darrell Harris. It gained notoriety when it issued Resurrection Band's ground breaking debut album, Awaiting Your Reply in 1978. Originally, a distribution deal was made with Benson Records. From 1983 until 1986, distribution was done by Word Records. After that, a deal was made with Sparrow Records. Independent distribution was started in 1989, and picked up distribution for ForeFront records and DC Talk in 1991. This distribution was maintained until the sale of the company to EMI, and the launch of Chordant Distribution in 1994. Pure Metal Records was acquired from Refuge Records in 1990. In 1998, it was announced that Star Song would only be used to issue reprints, and their artists would be transferred to Sparrow. Pamplin Music
Pamplin Music was an independent Christian record label founded in 1995 by Robert B. Pamplin Jr. The label was a subunit of Pamplin Entertainment and in turn Pamplin Communications, which was already established in the Christian media market through book stores and video products. Pamplin Music reported turning a profit in 1999 as well as being in the top five Christian music record labels. Despite this, Pamplin closed at the end of 2001, shuttering both its production and distribution operations. Pamplin focused on the pop, soft rock, and R&B market segments. For other segments, they used sublabels. Red Hill Records, established in 2000 with A&R handled by Dan Michaels (according to ''Billboard''), focused on electronic and pop music, and was generally aimed at the youth market.
