Siebel Institute Of Technology
The Siebel Institute of Technology is a for-profit, unaccredited vocational college located on Goose Island in Chicago that focuses on brewing science. The school is the oldest brewing school located in the United States and has been in operation since its founding in 1868 by German immigrant chemist John Ewald Siebel (1845-1919). Prior to immigrating to the United States in 1866, Siebel earned his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Berlin Originally named the Zymotechnic Institute, the school was renamed after its founder in 1872. During Prohibition, the institute diversified by adding courses in baking, refrigeration, engineering, milling, carbonated beverages and related topics; after the repeal of Prohibition, courses not concerned with brewing were discontinued. Pink Boots Society
The Pink Boots Society (PBS) is a Nonprofit organization, non-profit organization with international membership which supports women and non-binary people working in the fermented beverages and allied industries. PBS started with women beer professionals and expanded that definition as its members and the industry have evolved. The majority of its members are involved with Microbrewery, craft beer. The organization helps women fermented beverage professionals advance their careers through educational opportunities. Sub goals include mentorship, networking with other women in the profession, and raising awareness of women in these male-dominated industries. PBS also helps teach the skills needed to become beer judges. PBS raises money for scholarships for women to continue their education in order to break through remaining glass ceilings. Teri Fahrendorf (born February 18, 1960) is an American brewer and founder of the Pink Boots Society, an organization that supports women in the brewing industry. Fahrendorf was one of the first women to enter the craft brewing industry, and her brews have won awards from the Great American Beer Festival and the Brewers Association, Brewer's Association, among others.
