Sideways
''Sideways'' is a 2004 American comedy-drama directed by Alexander Payne and written by Jim Taylor and Payne. A film adaptation of Rex Pickett's 2004 novel, ''Sideways'' follows two men in their forties, Miles Raymond ( Paul Giamatti), a depressed teacher and unsuccessful writer, and Jack Cole ( Thomas Haden Church), a past-his-prime actor, who take a week-long road trip to Santa Barbara County wine country to celebrate Jack's upcoming wedding. Rex Pickett (born July 9, 1952) is an American novelist and filmmaker best known for his novel ''Sideways'', which was adapted into a 2004 movie of the same name directed by Alexander Payne. Career Education and early career Pickett was born at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California, and grew up in San Diego. Plot The novel is the story of two friends, Miles and Jack, who take a road trip to the Santa Ynez Valley AVA a week before Jack plans to marry.
