Sidek Abdullah Kamar
Dato' Haji Sidek Abdullah Kamar (19 January 1936 – 17 October 2005) was a Malaysian badminton coach, former player and the father of Malaysia's most famous badminton-playing family, Sidek brothers who represented Malaysia in badminton. It was his sons who played the biggest roles to take Malaysia out of the doldrums in world badminton, culminating in the success to regain the Thomas Cup after a lapse of 25 years in 1992. Mohd Sidek laid the groundwork for his son's rise to stardom in Malaysian badminton. Led by Misbun, the Sidek brothers began their domination of the game from the early 1980s to 2000. Early life and education Sidek was born on 19 January 1936, at Kampung Kanchong Darat, Banting, Selangor. He attended the SMKA Al-Mashoor (L) Islamic religious school in Penang. Razif Sidek
Datuk Razif Sidek (born 29 May 1962) is a former badminton player from Malaysia and coach. Personal life He is the second eldest of the famous five Sidek brothers. Razif and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohd Sidek. Under the guidance of his father, Razif and the rest of his siblings were destined to be Malaysia's champions. In addition, Razif Sidek is one of the alumni of Victoria Institution (batch 1974–1980). He is married to a former model, Khalidah Khalid and the couple is blessed with five children. In addition, his youngest son, Mohd Fazriq is also active in badminton just like his father. The Most Esteemed Order of the Defender of the Realm ( ms, Darjah Yang Mulia Pangkuan Negara) is a Malaysian federal award presented for meritorious service to the country. Rahman Sidek
Rahman Sidek (born 14 September 1966) is a former badminton player from Malaysia and coach. Personal life He is the 4th child of the 5 legendary Sidek brothers who represented Malaysia in the sport of badminton internationally. Rahman and his siblings gained exposure about badminton sport from their father, Haji Mohd Sidek. Under the guidance of his father, Rahman and the rest of his siblings were trained to be champions. Furthermore, Rahman is one of the alumnus of Victoria Institution (batch 1978–1984) amongst the batch of Malaysia's prominent sportsmen who also attended that school just like him. Career He is an international doubles player during the late 1980s to early 1990s. Datuk Abdul Rashid bin Mohd Sidek (born 6 July 1968) is a Malaysian former badminton player and coach. Personal life He is the youngest of the famous five Sidek brothers. Rashid and his siblings gained exposure to badminton from their father, Mohd Sidek, a former player turned coach. Under the guidance of their father, Rashid and the rest of his siblings were trained to be champions from an early age. Additionally, Rashid was also an alumnus of Victoria Institution from the 1980–1986 batch. Career After completing his Sijil Penilaian Menengah (SPM) exam, he was injected into the Project 1988/90 squad with the aim of regaining the Thomas Cup. In the 1990 Thomas Cup, Rashid played well but Malaysia lost the finals to China 1–4. He won the Malaysian Open title for three consecutive years in 1990, 1991, and 1992. The Thomas Cup, sometimes called the World Men's Team Championships, is an international badminton competition among teams representing member nations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the sport's global governing body. The championships have been conducted every two years since the 1982, amended from being conducted every three years since the first tournament held in 1948–1949. The final phase of the tournament involves 12 teams competing at venues within the host nation and is played concurrently with the final phase of the world women's team championships, the Uber Cup (first held in 1956–1957).
