Quentin Sickels
Quentin Brian "Quent" Sickels (December 21, 1926 – April 24, 2018) was a former American football player. He played college football for the University of Michigan in 1944 and from 1946 to 1948. He played on Michigan's undefeated 1947 and 1948 national championship teams. His college football career was interrupted by service in the United States Coast Guard during the 1945 football season. Early years Sickels was the son of Fred Roy Sickels, the athletic director and coach at Benton Harbor Junior High School in Benton Harbor, Michigan and Lois Barker. He played three years of varsity football for Benton Harbor High School and led his team to the state championship as senior in 1943. At the end of the 1943 season, he was picked as a first-team all-conference player and was also "picked for a line spot on several All-State teams." Emma Cornelia Sickels
Emma Cornelia Sickels (1854–1921) was an American teacher. She had a complex relationship with Indigenous peoples through her work with the US government. White society called her a hero for collecting information and mediating peace between the US and the Lakota people in 1890. During this time, she incorrectly blamed Native Americans for the Wounded Knee Massacre. In 1893, she was publicly fired from the Anthropology and Ethnology Department at the Chicago World's Fair for protesting how her boss was falsely showcasing Native American life to display Indigenous people as uncivilized. Early life Sickels was born in 1854 in Massachusetts. She was the fourth child of George Edward Sickels and the second child of Maria Louisa Smith. Garrett Sickels
Garrett Ross Sickels (born September 24, 1994) is a former American football outside linebacker. He played college football at Penn State, and signed as an undrafted free agent with Indianapolis Colts the in 2017. He played for three seasons, signing with four teams. High school career Sickels played all four years at Red Bank Regional High School, but didn't see significant playing time until his junior year playing mostly special teams his first two years. He recorded 194 tackles, 25 sacks, nine forced fumbles and eight blocked kicks in his career. Selected to play in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American game, where he roomed with future Nittany Lion teammate Brendan Mahon. John Sickels
John Sickels (born January 5, 1968) is an American baseball writer who specializes in minor league baseball and amateur baseball. Biography Sickels is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University (1990, BA in history and philosophy) and the University of Kansas (1993, MA in history). He resides in Kansas with his wife, Jeri. He has two sons, Nicholas and Jackson. Sickels worked as research assistant to noted baseball writer Bill James from 1993 though 1996. From 1996 to 2005, Sickels was a columnist for ESPN.com, writing regular "Down on the Farm" columns that took an in-depth look at baseball prospects. Sickels parted ways with ESPN in February 2005 and soon thereafter started his own blog, www.minorleagueball.com, part of the SB Nation/Vox Media empire.
