''The Sicilian Connection'' (, also known as ''The Opium Connection'') is a 1972 crime film directed and co-written by Ferdinando Baldi and starring Ben Gazzara, Silvia Monti, Fausto Tozzi and Jess Hahn. An Italian and French co-production, it is usually categorized as part of the poliziottesco ''Poliziotteschi'' (; : ''poliziottesco'') constitute a subgenre of crime and action films that emerged in Italy in the late 1960s and reached the height of their popularity in the 1970s. Ferdinando Baldi
Ferdinando Baldi (19 May 1927 – 12 November 2007) was an Italian film director and screenwriter. Throughout his career he used a number of pseudonyms, including Ted Kaplan, Ferdy Baldwin and Sam Livingstone. Biography Baldi was born in Cava de' Tirreni, Salerno, on 19 May 1927. He was employed as a teacher after getting a degree in literature, but he got involved in cinema thanks to his acquaintance with Italian producer Tiziano Longo and he produced his first movie, Il Prezzo dell'onore in 1952. Malisa Longo (born Maria Luisa Longo; 13 July 1950) is an Italian actress, model and writer. Life and career Born Maria Luisa Longo in Venice, Italy, she moved to Rome at a young age where she started a career as a model. She entered the Miss Italia beauty contest, winning the Miss Cinema and Miss Lazio titles. After appearing in a number of commercials, she made her acting debut in 1968 in the Antonio Margheriti's Giallo, ''giallo'' film ''The Young, the Evil and the Savage''.
