Si Euli
Si Euli is a traditional dagger or knife that originates from Nias (mostly North Nias), an island off the west coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia. There are versions of this knife worn by men or for daily use. Description A dagger with a narrow, straight blade carried diagonally in the centre of the belt. The hilt is separated from the blade by a cylindrical brass ring and is curved at the end or makes a slight curve at about halfway. In the latter case the top of the hilt is flattened. The scabbard is straight and has a cross-piece at the mouth protruding towards the blade's edge or towards both sides. To the rear it may have a small protrusion, but also a prominent protrusion the point of which curves somewhat upwards. The scabbard may be wound with a brass wire and may have a small angled foot. Nias People
Nias people are an ethnic group native to Nias, an island off the west coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Gari (sword)
Gari is a sword that originates from Nias, an island off the west coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia. It is a term used for a type of sword found only in North Nias. Description It is a sword with narrow blade, slightly curved at the end. The hilt has the shape of a ''lasaras head and a long curved iron protrusion ("tongue"), appearing from the centre of the opened mouth. The scabbard is, as is the blade, slightly curved at the end. It may be decorated with brass strips and wood-carvings. Magical objects may be attached to the scabbard's top. Culture The Gari is used during wedding ceremonies in Northern Nias. Balato (sometimes also known as Baltoe, Balatu, Balatu Sebua, Ballatu, Foda, Gari Telegu, Klewang Buchok Berkait, Roso Sebua or Telagoe) is a sword that originates from Nias, an island off the west coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Description Balato is a sword with large variety of blades, hilts and scabbards.
