Shūka Sho
The is a Conditions races, Grade 1 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Japan for three-year-old thoroughbred Filly, fillies run over a distance of 2,000 metres (approximately 1 1/4 miles) at the Kyoto Racecourse, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture in October. The Shūka Shō is the final leg of the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing#Japan, Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown, preceded by the Oka Sho in early April and the Yushun Himba in May. In 1996 it was established as Domestic Grade 1 race, and in 2009 it was granted International Grade 1 status. Trial races Trial races provide automatic berths to the winning horses or placed horses as specified. Winners The 2021 and 2022 runnings were contested at Hanshin Racecourse, due to construction at Kyoto Racecourse. Aventura (, foaled 7 March 2008) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. As a juvenile in 2010 she showed very promising form, winning on her debut before running second in the Sapporo Nisai Stakes and fourth in the Hanshin Juvenile Fillies. She missed the first half of the next season but then won the Isaribi Stakes and the Queen Stakes before recording her biggest victory in the Shuka Sho. She sustained her only defeat of the year on her final start when she was beaten a neck by Snow Fairy in the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup. Masayoshi Ebina
(born March 19, 1969, in Hokkaidō, Japan) is a Japanese horse trainer and former jockey. He has also been nicknamed ''Ebi-Shō''. He decided to become a jockey after watching Green Grass win the Kikuka Sho. He is best known for riding El Condor Pasa, winning the Japan Cup in 1998 and taking second place in the 1999 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. In 2010 he won the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown with Apapane. He retired as a jockey in February 2021 after earning his license as a horse trainer. He inherited 33 horses from Kazuo Fujisawa in 2022, as he was retiring from horse training. Apapane (horse)
Apapane (, foaled 20 April 2007) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown in 2010. As a two-year-old in 2009 she won three of her four races including the Grade I Hanshin Juvenile Fillies and won the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Filly. In the following year she won the Oka Sho and Yushun Himba before completing the Triple Crown in the Shuka Sho and winning the JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Filly. In the following spring she won her fifth Grade I race when she defeated the Japanese Horse of the Year Buena Vista in the Victoria Mile. She never won again and was retired after developing a leg problem in September 2012. Yasunari Iwata
(born March 12, 1974; from Himeji, Hyōgo Prefecture) is a Japanese jockey who rode the winner of the 2006 Melbourne Cup, Delta Blues. It was Iwata's first race outside Japan. He debuted in the Hyōgo Keiba, one of the racing organizations in National Association of Racing (NAR). He has started riding in selected events in Japan Racing Association (JRA) since 2002. Sweep Tosho (Japanese: スイープトウショウ, foaled 9 May 2001 — died December 5, 2020) is a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. Bred and owned by Tosho Sangyo and trained throughout her racing career by Akio Tsurudome, she won eight of her twenty-four races between October 2003 and November 2007, including Grade I victories in the Shuka Sho, Takarazuka Kinen and Queen Elizabeth II Cup. Still in Love (, 2 May 2000 – 2 August 2007) was a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After winning her only race as a juvenile she became the best filly of her generation in Japan, winning the Oka Sho, Yushun Himba and Shuka Sho to complete the Japanese Fillies' Triple Crown in 2003. She remained in training for two more years but failed to win again and was retired in 2005. She produced only one foal before dying at the age of seven in 2007. (b. November 3, 1978, in Rittō, Shiga) is a Japanese trainer of Thoroughbred race horses and ex-jockey. He is the younger brother of Yutaka Take.
