Shyu Jong-shyong
Shyu Jong-shyong (; born 7 October 1957) is a Taiwanese politician. Education Shyu obtained his bachelor's degree in political science from Soochow University in 1981. He then continued his studies in the United States and obtained his master's degree in special education and Ph.D. in physical disability welfare from the University of Northern Colorado. Early career After graduation from University of Northern Colorado, Shyu became a specialist under the Department of Social Affairs of Taiwan Provincial Government in 1987–1988. In 1988-1991 he became an associate researcher at the Taiwan Secondary Education Teachers Training Center and in 1991-1993 he became an associate professor at the Department of Special Education of National Taichung Teacher's College. The Kuomintang (KMT) is a major political party in the Republic of China (Taiwan). It was the sole ruling party of the country during its rule from 1927 to 1949 in Mainland China until its relocation to Taiwan, and in Taiwan ruled under martial law until 1987. The Taiwan Area, also called the Taiwan Area of the Republic of China, the free area of the Republic of China, and the "Tai-Min Area (Taiwan and Fuchien)" , is a term used to refer to the territories under the effective control of the Republic of China (usually called "Taiwan"). It has been in official use since the Additional Articles of the Constitution of the Republic of China took effect, ending temporary anti-communist provisions on 1 May 1991. The term is also used in the 1992 Cross-Strait Act. The area currently under the definition consists of the island groups of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu and some minor islands. The collective term "Tai-Peng-Kin-Ma" is literally equivalent except that it only refers to the geographical areas of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu Area, to the exclusion of Wuqiu, Dongsha Island, and Taiping Island.
