Shyla Heal (born 19 September 2001) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Townsville Fire of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Early life Heal attended Brisbane State High School in Brisbane, Queensland, and Lake Ginninderra College in Canberra. Professional career After a season in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) for the South West Metro Pirates in 2015, Heal debuted in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) in the 2015–16 season with the South East Queensland Stars as a 14-year-old. Her father, Shane Heal, was coach of the team. Heal continued in the QBL in 2016 with the Ipswich Force and then had a short stint with the Sutherland Sharks in the Waratah League in 2017. Women's National Basketball League
The Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) is the pre-eminent professional women's basketball league in Australia. It is currently composed of eight teams. The league was founded in 1981 and is the women's counterpart to the National Basketball League (NBL). Several WNBL teams have NBL counterparts. The 2019–20 WNBL season is the 40th season of the competition since its establishment in 1981. The Canberra Capitals were the defending champions and they successfully defended their title with a 2–0 win over Southside. The 2019–20 title was the ninth overall for the Capitals franchise. SEABL
The South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) was an Australian semi-professional basketball league. The league comprised both a men's and women's competition and was run by the country's governing body, Basketball Australia. The league was one and the same with the Australian Basketball Association (ABA) from its inception in 1981 until 1993. With the inclusion of a North conference from Queensland in 1994, the history of the SEABL and ABA was split from one another for the first time. Over the years, the SEABL boasted teams from Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory. Shane Douglas Heal (born 6 September 1970) is an Australian basketball coach and former player. Playing career International Heal's international career highlights include representing the Australian Boomers at the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympic Games, captaining the team in 2004 in Athens. Heal Also represented Australia at numerous FIBA World Championships. Many consider Heal's best international game came against the USA "Dream Team" in a warm up match for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. 2015–16 WNBL Season
The 2015–16 WNBL season is the 36th season of competition since its establishment in 1981. A total of 9 teams contested the league. The regular season was played between October 2015 and February 2016, followed by a post-season involving the top four on 28 February to 18 March 2016. The Townsville Fire were the defending champions and they would go on to repeat their run to the WNBL title, defeating the Perth Lynx 2–0 in the final. NBL1 North, formerly the Queensland Basketball League (QBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Queensland and Northern Territory, Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition.
