Shupenzë
Shupenzë is a village and a former municipality in the Dibër County, eastern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Bulqizë. The population at the 2011 census was 5,503.2011 census results Historical demographics In 1900, gathered and compiled statistics on demographics in the area and reported the populations of ten villages in the modern municipality, including Bllacë, Boçevë, Homesh ( ''Omezhe''), Kovashicë, Mazhicë, Okshatinë, Shtushaj, Topojan, Vlashaj and Zogjaj. All ten were reported as being Albanian-inhabited, with a total population amongst them of 4080. |
Bulqizë
Bulqizë (; sq-definite, Bulqiza) is a municipality in Dibër County, northeastern Albania. The municipality consists of the administrative units of Fushë-Bulqizë, Gjoricë, Martanesh, Ostren, Shupenzë, Trebisht, Zerqan with Bulqizë constituting its seat. As of the 2023 census, there were 7,875 people residing in Bulqizë and 26,826 in Bulqizë Municipality. Demographic history Bulqizë is recorded in the Ottoman ''defter'' of 1467 as a '' hass-ı mir-liva'' and '' derbendci'' settlement in the vilayet of '' Dulgoberda''. Dibër County
Dibër County (; ) is one of the 12 counties of the Republic of Albania, spanning a surface area of with the capital in Peshkopi. The county borders on the counties of Durrës, Elbasan, Kukës, Lezhë, Tirana and the country of North Macedonia. It is divided into the four municipalities of Bulqizë, Dibër, Klos and Mat. The municipalities are further subdivided into 290 towns and villages in total. Topographically, the county is dominated by mountainous and high terrain, with a great variety of natural features including valleys, canyons, gorges, rivers, glacial lakes and dense forests. Vasil Kanchov
Vasil Kanchov (26 July 1862 – 6 February 1902) was a geographer, ethnographer and teacher who served as Minister of Education of Bulgaria. Early life and education Vasil Kanchov was born in Vratsa. Upon graduating from High school in Lom, Bulgaria, and later he entered the University of Harkov, then in the Russian Empire. During the Serbo-Bulgarian War 1885 he suspended his education and took part in the war. Later, he went on to pursue studies at universities in Munich and Stuttgart, but in 1888 he interrupted his education again due to an illness. Career In the following years Kanchov was a Bulgarian teacher in Macedonia.
