Shuna, Slate Islands
Shuna (Gaelic Siuna) is one of the Slate Islands lying east of Luing on the west coast of Scotland. History In 1815, James Yates, a Glasgow native living in Woodville in Devon, bought the island from Colonel McDonald of Lynedale. In 1829 Yates bequeathed the island in trust to the magistrates and council of Glasgow, with profits from the estate divide two fifths to the city, two fifths to Glasgow University and one fifth to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. This was disputed by Yates' heir, who accepted £300 from the trustees to settle his claim. The revenue from the island was scarce and the trustees sold it in 1911. Shuna Castle was built as recently as 1911. It fell into disrepair in the 1980s when the cost of maintenance become too great."Shuna Wildlife & History"

Shuna Island
Shuna Island or simply Shuna is an island in Loch Linnhe, offshore from Appin. The island is approximately long and wide and extends to some in total. The island is characterised by a table topped hill at its southern end. The name Shuna is probably derived from the Norse, for "sea island". The island is separated from Appin by the Sound of Shuna. Shuna is recorded in a late 16th-century document as belonging to John Stewart, the Laird of Appin. He may have built Castle Shuna a small tower-house, which is now in ruins lies at the south end In the 18th century, Shuna Farmhouse replaced Castle Shuna as the residence on the island: it is a Category B listed traditional farmhouse dating from the 1740s. Opposite Castle Shuna, at the head of Loch Laich, is the island fortress of Castle Stalker, also historically a possession of the Stewarts of Appin. The island forms part of the Lynn of Lorn National Scenic Area, one of 40 in Scotland. In 2012 the island was placed on sale via ...

Al-Shuna
Al-Shuna ( ar, الشونة) was a Palestinian Arab village in the Safad Subdistrict. It was ethnically cleansed and depopulated during the 1947–1948 Civil War in Mandatory Palestine on April 30, 1948, by the Palmach's First Battalion of Operation Yiftach. It was located 6 km south of Safad, overlooking the deep gorge of Wadi al-'Amud. History Victor Guérin describes this place in 1875 as "built of white limestone mixed with stones of black basalt in alternate courses. We think that although this custom is common in modern Arab building, it can be shown to have been an ancient usage, so that the building may be old. Round it are the vestiges of a ruined hamlet." In 1881 the PEF's ''Survey of Western Palestine'' found at ''Kŭlảt esh Shûneh'': "A modern Arab building of basaltic stone; used probably as a barn, as the name implies." British Mandate era In the 1922 census of Palestine ''Shuneh'' had a population of 83; all Muslim,Barron, 1923, Table XI, Sub-dis ...

North Shuna
Al-Shunah al-Shamalyah ( ar, الشونة الشمالية, also spelled Esh-Shuneh esh-Shamaliyeh), which translates to North Shuna, a name it is also known by, is a Jordanian town. It is located in Irbid Governorate, overlooking the Jordan River Valley. The city sits at the intersection of Highway 65 and Highway 10, and lies just south of the confluence of Yarmouk and Jordan rivers. Etymology ''Shunah'' translates in the region's Arabic to "barn". Shunah is also spelled Shuneh and Shuna. The Arabic definite article ''al'' when followed by certain consonants undergoes assimilation to the latter, so that in cases like this, ''al'' is sounded ''ash'', also spelled ''esh'', (See Hart's Rules). yielding here ''ash-Shunah/esh-Shuneh''. Likewise ''al-Shamalyah'' is often rendered ''ash-Shamaliyah/esh-Shamaliyeh''. For the beginning of place-names, at least when reproduced in English, common convention allows for the definite article to be dropped, yielding here ''Shunah'' ('' ...
