Machinefabriek is the musical of Dutch musician/sound artist and graphic designer Rutger Zuydervelt. Biography Rutger Zuydervelt was born on 28 July 1978 in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. He started working as Machinefabriek in 2004. Except for a few piano and guitar lessons when he was young, Zuydervelt didn’t study music. He graduated as a graphic designer. The sleeves of his releases are practically always designed by Zuydervelt himself, being a crucial part of the music. Machinefabriek’s music combines elements of ambient, modern classical music, minimalism, drone, field recordings and lowercase. His pieces unfold as ‘films without image’, with a sharp ear for detail. After releasing a series of self-released CD-Rs, the official debut, ‘Marijn’, was issued by Lampse in 2006. Peter Broderick
Peter Broderick (born January 20, 1987) is an American musician and composer from Carlton, Oregon. He has released solo material under his own name, been a member of Efterklang, and played with several ensembles as a session musician. Biography Broderick was born in Searsmont, Maine in 1987 but raised mostly in Carlton, Oregon. He learned a number of musical instruments whilst at school, and went on to become a session musician, playing violin, banjo, musical saw, and mandolin on recordings by M. Ward, Zooey Deschanel, Dolorean, Jeff London and others. He played and toured with numerous groups, including Horse Feathers, Norfolk & Western, Loch Lomond and Laura Gibson. In mid-2007, Broderick joined the Danish ensemble Efterklang in Copenhagen to join their touring band after the release of their album Parades. Celer (group)
Celer is an American drone music project formed in 2005 by composer and musician Will Long and Danielle Baquet-Long. History Founded in 2005, at the beginning of their relationship in Huntington Beach, California, U.S.A., Celer was created as a musical and artistic collaboration between Danielle Baquet-Long and Will Long. Between 2005 and 2007, the couple created 22 releases, which they self-released, packaged in handmade, hand-painted packages, with designs, and individual stencils. The handmade packaging designs have been described as "deliciously mysterious", where "Muted and bleach colours stretch as far as the eye can see in these panoramic paintings for the mind", and the music as "deeply personal, or unwittingly obscure", and "gentle, haunting and evocative", created "primarily from personal memories and thought experiments". Stephen Vitiello
Stephen Vitiello is an American visual and sound artist. Originally a punk guitarist he is influenced by video artist Nam June Paik who he worked with after meeting in 1991. He has collaborated with Pauline Oliveros, Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner) and Frances-Marie Uitti; as well as visual artists Julie Mehretu, Tony Oursler and Joan Jonas. Vitiello was a resident artist at the World Trade Center in 1999 where he recorded sounds from the 91st floor using home-built contact microphones, as well as photocells and used that material in his ''Bright and Dusty Things'' album (New Albion Records) as well as in an installation environment, ''World Trade Center Recordings: Winds After Hurricane Floyd.'' WORM (Rotterdam)
WORM is a Rotterdam based non-profit foundation and a multi-media alternative cultural centre focused on experimental, new media art, avant-garde and underground art, primarily music and movies. WORM is funded by the Triodos Bank and part of the culture nota 2009–2012 from the Dutch government. The foundation has received the Pendrecht Culture Prize and its venue is part of the Rotterdam culture plan. WORM organises festivals and concerts and movie nights, and runs an independent record label and a radio station. Part of the organisation is a media lab and a music studio, which run free artist in residence programmes for artists and experimental musicians. Steve Roden
Steve Roden (April 27, 1964 – September 6, 2023) was an American contemporary artist and musician. He worked in the fields of sound and visual art, and is credited with pioneering lowercase music, a compositional style where quiet and usually unheard sounds are amplified to create complex and rich soundscapes. His discography of multiple albums and works of sound art includes '' Forms of Paper'', which was commissioned by the Los Angeles Public Library. Biography While he was a student at Beverly Hills High School from 1979 to 1982, Roden started a punk rock band called the Seditionaries, who performed with bands such as Circle Jerks, T.S.O.L. and The Damned. Simon Scott (born 3 March 1971) is an English musician, mastering engineer and sound artist, best known as the drummer in Slowdive and formerly of Lowgold and The Charlottes. He also fronted Inner Sleeve/Televise, and has released ambient music as a solo artist. Career Born in Cambridge, Scott first started drumming with female fronted Huntingdon band The Charlottes in 1987 at the age of 16, having recorded two studio tracks a year earlier as part of Honey Chainsaw. He left the Charlottes in 1990 to replace drummer Neil Carter in Slowdive who had supported them in London at The White Horse in Hampstead. He played on albums '' Just for a Day'' and ''Souvlaki'', which was voted in ''The Guardian'' as "One of the top 50 albums to hear before you die" in 2007. Simon Nabatov
Simon Nabatov (born 11 January 1959) is a Russian-American jazz pianist. Early life Nabatov was born in Moscow on 11 January 1959. His parents were Leon, a professional pianist and choir conductor who was a native of Belarus, and Regina. Nabatov began playing the piano at the age of three and his first composition was at six. He attended a Duke Ellington concert in Moscow in 1971 and his determination to become a jazz musician was reinforced a year later at a Thad Jones–Mel Lewis Orchestra performance. By the age of 17 he was playing bebop with other musicians in Moscow. His formal education in music was at the Central School of Music and then the Moscow Conservatory. Nabatov and his parents were permitted to leave the Soviet Union in 1979.
