''Showbiz Tycoon'' is a 2000 Hong Kong semi-biographical television drama loosely based on the life of Hong Kong entertainment mogul Run Run Shaw, founder of film company Shaw Brothers Studio and television company TVB. The drama stars Michael Tao as Shaw, Carina Lau as Shaw's wife Mona Fong, Wayne Lai and Alex Fong respectively as Leonard Ho and Raymond Chow, Shaw's former business partners and founders of Golden Harvest, Shaw Brothers' rival company. Michael Tao
Michael Tao Dai Yu (, born 26 August 1963) is a Hong Kong television actor. Career Tao entered the acting industry in the 1980s, affiliating with TVB. It was during this period that Tao earned the name "Housewife Killer" due to his overwhelming popularity amongst housewives (who arguably constitute a majority of television viewing audiences in Hong Kong), solidifying his position as a first tier television actor in TVB. Tao later moved over to rival ATV in 1997 after problems over his contract with TVB. His ATV series Flaming Brothers defeated the TVB rival show at the time, a landmark for ATV. Apart from filming ATV series, Tao has also filmed in China and Singapore. He returned to TVB in 2004 and has starred in a number of television series since. Richard Li Han-hsiang (; 7 March 1926 in Jinxi, Liaoning – 17 December 1996 in Beijing) was a Chinese film director. Li directed more than 70 films in his career beginning in the 1950s and lasting till the 1990s. His ''The Enchanting Shadow'', ''The Magnificent Concubine'', and '' Empress Wu Tse-Tien'' were entered into the Cannes Film Festival in 1960, 1962, and 1963 respectively. Runde Shaw
Runde Shaw (1898–1973), also known as Shao Cunren and Shao Rendi, was the second-oldest of the Shaw brothers, originally from Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, who established Tianyi Film Company (also called Unique) in Shanghai in the early 1920s, setting the stage for what would become the most prolific film production company in Asia. His father was Shanghai textile merchant Shaw Yuh Hsuen (1867–1920). The eldest Shaw brother Runje sent two of his younger brothers, Runme and Run Run to Malaya in 1925 to establish a South East Asian film distribution and cinema exhibition network for Unique's films. Jimmy Lung Fong (龍方) was a Hong Kong actor, film director, and action choreographer. Lung was best known to moviegoers for his frequent portrayal of villains in various Hong Kong films, most notably in films made by Wong Jing. Lung retired from the film industry, and died from lung cancer in 2008. Career Lung Fong was born Li Chien-Min. He started his career by playing small roles in porno's and martial arts films during the 1970s. In 1981, he left his acting career, after starring in a series of unsuccessful films. In 1989, director Wong Jing needed someone to play a villain in ''Casino Raiders''. While Wong had dinner at restaurant while Lung was the manager, he asked Lung for an audition. Ronald Bi Jen-hsu (born 4 December 1938), known by his stage name Chin Han, is a retired Hong Kong actor, director, screenwriter and producer born in mainland China. He has appeared in over 50 Mandarin-language films in Hong Kong and Taiwan, many of them produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio in the 1960s and the 1970s.
