''Show You Colour'' () is the Chinese Rock artist Cui Jian's fifth album, released on 23 March 2005. In contrast to his previous work, 'Show You Colour' combines elements of rock, popular music, hip-hop and electronic music to produce its distinctive sound. Themes Show You Colour is divided into three themes; red representing the internal spirit, yellow representing love and blue representing wisdom or knowledge. Cui Jian
Cui Jian ( zh, c=崔健, p=Cuī Jiàn, ; born 2 August 1961) is a Beijing-based Chinese singer-songwriter, trumpeter and guitarist. Affectionately called "Old Cui" (), he pioneered Chinese rock music. Early career Cui Jian grew up in a musical family in Beijing—his father was ethnic Korean and a professional trumpet player, and his mother was a member of a Korean dance troupe. Cui Jian followed his father to start playing the trumpet at the age of fourteen. He joined the Beijing Symphony Orchestra in 1981, at the age of twenty. He was first introduced to rock during this period when friends smuggled in illicit recordings from Hong Kong and Bangkok. Chinese Hip Hop
Chinese hip hop (), also known as C-Rap, is a subgenre of Chinese music. Some of the earliest influences of hip-hop in came from films such as ''Beat Street'' (1984) which entered China on video tape via embassy workers or foreign businessmen and their families. History The first DJ in China who played hip hop music on a daily basis was a resident at the first Chinese nightclub Juliana's in Beijing in 1984. Douban.com (), launched on 6 March 2005, is a Chinese online database and social networking service that allows registered users to record information and create content related to film, books, music, recent events, and activities in Chinese cities. Douban is named after a Hutong in Chaoyang District, Beijing where the founder lived while he began work on the website. Douban was formerly open to both registered and unregistered users. For registered users, the website recommends potentially interesting books, movies, and music to them in addition to serving as a social network website such as WeChat, Weibo and record keeper. For unregistered users, the website is a place to find ratings and reviews of media. Douban has about 200 million registered users as of 2013 and some Chinese authors as well as critics register their official personal pages on the site.
