Short-track Speed Skating At The 2006 Winter Olympics
Short track speed skating at the 2006 Winter Olympics was held over thirteen days, from 12 to 25 February. Eight events were contested at the Torino Palavela. In the men's competition, Ahn Hyun-soo earned a medal in each event, winning three golds. On the women's side, Jin Sun-yu scored three gold medals. Torino Palavela
Palavela, formerly known as Palazzo delle Mostre and Palazzo a Vela is an indoor arena that is located in Turin, Italy, on the bank of the River Po. It was designed by engineer Franco Levi and architects Annibale Rigotti, Annibale and Giorgio Rigotti. The arena is 130 metres in diameter. It has a seating capacity for a maximum 12,200 people, and 9,200 when configured for basketball games. The Palavela was featured in the 1969 film ''The Italian Job''. In a famous scene in the film, three Minis are seen driving onto and over the arena's distinctive roof. Kalyna Roberge
Kalyna Roberge (born October 1, 1986) is a Canadian short track speed skater. Born in Saint-Étienne-de-Lauzon, Quebec, Roberge has won a gold medal in the 3000m relay at the 2005 World Championships. She also placed third overall at the 2005 World Junior Championships including a gold medal in the 500m. She also won a gold medal at a World Cup event in the Netherlands in the 3000m relay. At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Roberge placed fourth in the 500m. Along with Alanna Kraus, Tania Vicent and Anouk Leblanc-Boucher, Roberge won a silver medal in the 3000m relay. Jeon Da-hye
Jeon Da-hye (; born November 23, 1983) is a South Korean short track speed skater who won gold in the women's 3000 metre relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics. She was born in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea. In 1999 Jeon earned her first call to the South Korea women's national short track team at the age of 16. In 2001, she won two silver medals at the World Championships as a member of the national team. In 2001 Jeon was omitted from the national team roster and did not participated in the 2002 Winter Olympics. In February 2002, however, Jeon gained attention again, winning five gold medals at the national collegiate championships. Jeon first participated at the Winter Olympics in February 2006. Choi Eun-kyung (, born December 26, 1984) is a South Korean short track speed skater. She is a double Olympic Champion in relays and a two-time Overall World Champion for 2003 and 2004. Anouk Leblanc-Boucher (born October 21, 1984, in Prévost, Quebec) is a Canadian short track speed skating athlete at the 2006 Winter Olympics. A student in ecology at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), she won a bronze medal in the 500m short track speed skating event on February 15, 2006, at the Winter Olympics. She finished ahead of fellow Canadian Kalyna Roberge with a time of 0:44.759. Evgenia Radanova (; born 4 November 1977) is a Bulgarian female short track speed skater and racing cyclist who has participated in both the Summer and Winter Olympics. She was the world record holder in the 500 m short track distance with 43.671s, which she set in Calgary, Canada on 19 October 2001.
