Shobe-Morrison House is a historic home located near Morrison, Gasconade County, Missouri. The original section was built between about 1828 and 1830, with an addition made about 1840. It is a two-story, log I-house with a weatherboard exterior and Federal style woodwork. Also on the property is the contributing old slave quarters. Morrison is a town in Gasconade County, Missouri, United States. The first permanent settlement in the town was made by Robert Shobe circa 1828. The population was 93 at the 2020 census. History A post office called Morrison has been in operation since 1860. The community has the name of Alfred William Morrison, a legislator who is believed to have once lived in the area. Gasconade County is a county located in the east-central portion of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,794. The county seat has been Hermann since 1842. The county was named after the Gasconade River. The county is located on the south side of the Missouri River, which once served as the chief route of transportation in the state. It is located in the area known as the Missouri Rhineland. Because of its distinctive conditions, the Hermann area was designated an American Viticultural Area (AVA) in 1983. The I-house is a vernacular house type, popular in the United States from the colonial period onward. The I-house was so named in the 1930s by Fred Kniffen, a cultural geographer at Louisiana State University who was a specialist in folk architecture. He identified and analyzed the type in his 1936 study of Louisiana house types.
