Shlomo Perlstein
Shlomo Perlstein ( he, שלמה פרלשטיין, born 2 September 1902, died 19 April 1979) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset from 1951 until 1959, and again from 1961 until 1969. Biography Born in Przemyśl in Austria-Hungary (today in Poland), Perlstein attended school in Baden. He made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine in 1933, where he became involved in the hotels business. In 1940, he became chairman of the hospitality section of the General Association of Merchants, becoming the organisation's overall chairman in 1942. A member of Tel Aviv city council, he was elected to the Knesset on the General Zionists list in 1951. He was re-elected in 1955, but lost his seat in the 1959 elections. However, he returned to the Knesset after the 1961 elections (by which time the General Zionists had merged into the Liberal Party), and was re-elected in 1965 on the Herut-Liberal Bloc list. Przemyśl
Przemyśl (; yi, פשעמישל, Pshemishl; uk, Перемишль, Peremyshl; german: Premissel) is a city in southeastern Poland with 58,721 inhabitants, as of December 2021. In 1999, it became part of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship; it was previously the capital of Przemyśl Voivodeship. Przemyśl owes its long and rich history to the advantages of its geographic location. The city lies in an area connecting mountains and lowlands known as the Przemyśl Gate (Brama Przemyska), with open lines of transportation, and fertile soil. It also lies on the navigable San River. Important trade routes that connect Central Europe from Przemyśl ensure the city's importance. The Old Town of Przemyśl is listed as a Historic Monument of Poland. 1969 Israeli Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in Israel on 28 October 1969 to elect members of the seventh Knesset. The ruling Alignment coalition was returned to power with the largest number of seats ever won in an Israeli election (56 out of 120). This was attributed to the government's popularity following the country's victory in the Six-Day War, and that the Alignment had been formed by an alliance of the four most popular left-wing parties, who between them had received 51.2% of the vote in the previous elections in 1965. Gahal ( he, גח"ל, an acronym for ''Gush Herut–Liberalim'' (Hebrew: ), ''lit.'' ''Freedom–Liberals Bloc'') was the main right-leaning political alliance in Israel, ranging from the centre-right to right-wing, from its founding in 1965 until the establishment of Likud in 1973. It was led by Menachem Begin. History Gahal was formed by an alliance of Herut and the Liberal Party towards the end of the fifth Knesset in preparation for the 1965 elections. The alliance brought together the only two right-wing parties in the Knesset, each with 17 seats at the time.
