Shiva (British Band)
Shiva was a British band consisting of Louise Dean, Gino Piscitelli and Paul Ross. Formed in Huddersfield as Shine, the band changed their name to Shiva prior to the release of their debut single "Work It Out" in 1995. That single reached number 36 on the UK singles chart. A subsequent promotional single, "Freedom", was at number one on Record Mirror's "Cool Cuts" chart at the time of Dean's death from a hit and run driver on 18 June 1995. After initially being cancelled, the track was released in tribute to Dean and charted at number 18 in August 1995. After a memorial event for Dean in November 1995 raised £10,000, Piscitelli and Ross released "Let There Be Love" with TJ Davis and toured with her. The band performed at Deva Fest in 2019. Phoenix Festival
The Phoenix Festival was set up by John Vincent Power of the Mean Fiddler Music Group in 1993 as an alternative to the established Glastonbury and Reading Festivals. It was held at Long Marston Airfield near Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and was one of the first four-day festivals in Britain. History The first year of the festival (1993) featured headline performances by Sonic Youth, Hole, Faith No More and The Black Crowes, and included other notable acts such as Manic Street Preachers, Julian Cope, The Young Gods and House of Pain. However, the event was marred by controversy. Travelers refused free entry, blocked the entrance meaning many spent their Friday night in their vehicles in long queues. Festival goers were made to put out camp fires and turn off sound systems at midnight. Tribal Gathering is the original British electronic dance music festival that between 1993 and 2004 catered for different types of dance music cultures such as techno, house and drum & bass. After 18 years, Tribal Gathering returns in 2023 for a two-day event to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Allister Whitehead
Allister Whitehead is a British DJ, musician, remixer and record producer, based in Nottingham. He is widely regarded as one of United Kingdom's most prolific House DJs. Biography He started DJing at the age of 17 in the year 1987, when he would become resident of the Koolkat club where he performed on Saturdays. He gained further recognition when he performed as resident at notable clubs such as Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher. Graeme Park (DJ)
Graeme Park is a British house music DJ and is widely credited as one of the original founders of the UK's rave/club scene, notably as a leading figure of The Haçienda club in Manchester, England. Beginnings Park started out working in the Nottingham record shop, Select-a-Disc Records, from where his early forays into DJing were at The Garage Club (later The Kool Kat) in Nottingham, The Leadmill in Sheffield and other clubs in the Midlands and North of England. It gained him an invite to join Mike Pickering (of M-People fame) at the decks of the renowned The Haçienda club, in 1987, where he played until the venue closed in June 1997.
